Chadashot: What's New at BYDS?

Stage Set for Diamonds and Dice at BYDS Gala

School Aims for New Student Laptop Program with Special Fund-an-Item

We're back at school this year! The Annual Gala, which took a two year soujourn off campus with locations at the Four Seasons and the Intercontinental, is finally coming back to campus this year for the Thursday, December 6 event.

There's no need to fret, however; this year's Gala promises to bring all the glamour and sparkle of those fine Houston hotels back here to our own home at Congregation Beth Yeshurun. We're all in for a real treat this year, as Co-Chairs Julie Kaplan and Jaffray Getz have dedicated hundreds of hours of advance preparation to assure that this year's Gala will be as top notch as ever. We will certainly have some distinguished honorees to celebrate in Lee Wunsch, on behalf of honoring the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, along with this year's Volunteer Award recipient Shelley Sorkin.

Laptop Program to Highlight Funding Appeal

Amidst all the fun, silent and live auctioning, casino excitement, superb dinner,  spectacular interior design, and so much more, there will be an opportunity for the community to launch an entirely new student laptop program aimed at substantially accelerating the school's technology strategy. The "fund-an-item" appeal includes a goal of acquiring at least 45 high powered laptops for student use, including a "COW" or Cart-on-Wheels that will house a class-full of laptops that can easily be wheeled in and out of rooms, for general studies and Judaics, for quick and ready laptop functionality.

After a great deal of research and an incredibly generous anonymous donation as well as a leadership gift from the PTO, we are already well on our way to the $45,000 total we will need to bring Beth Yeshurun Day School up to speed with the leading schools in the city. The auctioneer will be looking for contributions of all sizes to help the school close the deal on this new program that will be installed and ready to go when students come back to school in January. With increased computing options and carefully selected curricular integration, our students will be well positioned to excel in middle school and beyond.

Planning on attending the Gala but haven't sent in an rsvp or obtained your tickets? No problem, click right here for your opportunity to take part in all the fun.

We look forward to seeing everyone here next Thursday night!

BYDS VOLUNTEER

BYDS Teacher Takes on Chair of Super Sunday

Here's a proud first for BYDS: First Grade Teacher Amy Krost is chairing this year's Jewish Federation Annual Campaign "Super Sunday." Amy is reaching out to our school faculty and all parents in our community, hoping to secure their volunteerism to help out on the big day, Sunday, December 9. Won't you answer Amy's call to give an hour of your time?

Amy makes the pitch the best: "I am so excited to be chairing The Houston Jewish Federation's Super Sunday event on Sunday, December 9th.   As you know, Beth Yeshurun Day School is a beneficiary of the annual campaign and by volunteering you are helping to insure BYDS continues to receive this critical support!  We know there is a lot going on that day--but we would love your help and support for even an hour. Remember, every call counts! Federation is investing in us. Let's give back and invest our time in them!"

We thank Amy and wish her and all the Federation volunteers great success for this year's Super Sunday event! We're ready to answer the call!

YES, I want to volunteer for Super Sunday and make an impact.

TAL AM Hebrew Program Makes Great Cooks!

The 1st grade learned the letter ט (Tet) through the Tal Am story about the טבח (cook). Then they played the role of a cook as they toasted toasts (also start with the letter Tet). Learning through hands on activities is an integral part of our Tal Am Program. Yasher Koach to Ms. Olitzki, Mrs. Knafo & Mrs. Silberman for organizing this activity.
