- Mensch of the Week
- We continue our character education program which includes a monthly value that will be discussed during the school day and during services. Our November theme is Kehilah (community) and we emphasize the importance hospitality, friendship and living in a community. Rabbi Rosen met with our 2nd grade this week and talke about the importance of Kehilah.

Joshua & Leah Cororve (3rd) and ( 1st ) - bringing their whole Tzedakah box - such kindness toward our school.
Jacob Roubein(5th) - moving an obstacle away so no one would trip.
Molly Turboff (1st) - on her own retrieving an item that belonged to a friend from the trash can.
Adam Katz (2nd) - helping a friend sign on to AR.
Elah Tuchshnieder (1st ) - helping her classmates find their missing library books.
Maxey Levinton (2nd ) helping a friend clean up a drink spill.
Molly Turboff (1st) - helping wipe up a spill without being asked.
Brady Dow (1st) - getting paper towels from the bathroom to clean up a spill without being told to do it.
Lauren Miller (1st) - helping clean up a spill that someone else did.
Emma Seunsom (3rd) - taking Mrs. Bormaster's rolling cart to the classroom when Mrs. B had to rush home to get something she forgot to bring to school.
Rachel Gittleman (3rd) - helped children in Writer's Workshop by sharing her completed work.
Ethan Katz (3rd) - Ethan sat with a friend at lunch who was sitting alone.
Maya Friedberg (2nd) - helping a friend find a shirt in the uniform closet.
Anna Greenberg (3rd) - giving her friends Tzedakah money if they forgot to bring so the class could get 100%way to go Anna.
Talia Schwartz (1st) - picking up her friends crayons without being asked.

Thanks for the wonderful participation this past week. 100% Tzedakah was collected by all classes grades K-5!
Thanks to Morgan Brandt and Meira Silverman for coordinating this weeks' project. We continue to collect coins every week and we are very excited to see such an overwhelming participation. The students will decide be the end of the semester where these monies should go to.
Kufsat Shabbat
BYDS students are eagerly looking forward to next Tuesday when our largest audience of the year assembles in Pulaski-Rauch (at 9:00am for the start of the Elementary School Program) and in Freedman-Levit (at 10:30am, for the start of the Early Childhood Program). Music Teacher Dora Lee Grinberg has a "Disney" themed program on tap for the Elementary School show, and students have been working on their songs, hand gestures, and choreography this week. Our Early Childhood grades are such naturals at this annual event, and they're ready to go under the direction of new EC Music Teacher, Jon Swann.
It was a "presidential" week for our BYDS Second Grade classes as they presented their Presidents' Project to audiences of fellow students and class parents. The project was comprehensive in scope, with writing, researching, and presentation skills all part of the unit. Over the past several weeks, each Second Grade student researched one of the 44 US Presidents. To guide them in their research, students were given three questions to investigate about their assigned President. Students wrote their research papers by hand, and then they turned to the technology part of the project during their computer instruction time and created a powerpoint slide show with bullets highlighting important and/or interesting facts about their president. Students then came dressed to school as their president and presented their powerpoints in Reiches Hall in front of the giant flat screen TV monitor. The kids worked very hard, learned a lot, and had loads of fun! 
BYDS became the happy and proud recipient of a beautiful Kimball baby grand piano this week, made possible by a gift from past BYDS parent and BY congregant Marty Schnurr. The 50 year old piano, valued at over $6,000, is in immaculate condition. It's new permanent home is in the southwest corner of Reiches Hall. We look forward to punctuating our gatherings and accompanying student choral sessions, and a whole lot more, with this elegant addition to our educational facility.
