Storm Water Tip
of the Month
Provided by the City of Buellton
Storm Water Tip of the Month
Continue to pick up after your pet and toss it in the trash.  Do not water down areas with animal waste.  Remove soiled bedding and manure at least 3 times per week from stalls, paddocks or barns.  If composting manure, locate the compost area on high ground away from areas that drain rain water.  To avoid uncontrolled nutrient runoff, do not apply uncomposted manure onto the ground before or during a rainstorm.

Water Conservation
Consider installing a Cistern or Rain Barrel to divert and collect water from your roof, through gutters and downspouts for outdoor irrigation reuse.  Check with your City's Planning and Building Department to determine if permits are required for large collection systems.

In Memory

We would like to share our sincere condolences to the families of :
Shawn Gran
&
Svend Olesen

These two fine men were members of our Chamber of Commerce for many years and great supporters of our community.

Shawn, owner of Parks Plaza Theater, passed away unexpectedly on September 22nd.  He was well known at the theater and always greeted you with a smile.  Shawn was also a large supporter of our Chamber Oscar Gala fundraisers years ago and often donated movie passes for raffle prizes.  He was always happy to help however he could and he provided our community with such a great asset in Parks Plaza.  Our sincere thoughts are with his family and friends.  The movie theater remains open, so please continue to go and enjoy this great asset that the Gran family has provided for our community.

Svend Olesen, owner of Svend Olesen and Son's Masonry Inc. passed away peacefully on September 4th.  He was a long standing member of the Buellton Chamber and through his work, touched so many places in the Valley, the rock work at the Alisal River Course being one of his favorites.  In addition to the work he did in the Valley, he also touched other communities such as: Vandenberg Air Force Base, Camp Roberts, and Lompoc Aquatic Center, to mention a few.  He will be missed in our community as he was a well recognized Buellton resident and Chamber member.  Our sincere thoughts are with his family and friends.

The Santa Ynez Valley Star is offering Chamber members who advertise in November or December a 20% discount. They will also help promote your business on social media.  The Star is now distributed from Santa Maria to Carpinteria.  For more details regarding this special offer, contact Shana DeLeon at 350-3148.

Greetings!

With a big election ahead of us and many important issues at hand, we can't stress enough how important it is to get out and vote.  Your voice does matter for our community, state, and country.

This year in Buellton, we will be electing a Mayor for the first time.  This has been an appointed position in the past.  The Candidates for Mayor are:

  • Dave King
  • Holly Sierra
There will be one City Council seat open that we will be voting for as well.  The Candidates for the open Council seat are:
  • Foster Reif
  • Leo Elovitz
  • Marcilo Sarquilla
Please do your part and get out and vote.

October Mixer has been rescheduled.

Thank you Rabobank

Dear Buellton Community,

Please allow me a few minutes of your time to introduce the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District November 8, 2016 General Election ballot initiative, Measure K.  If you haven't heard, we are engaged in a bond measure campaign that is targeting campus improvements regarding areas of critical need only that require replacement or reconstruction of our facilities.

There is a host of related materials available on the Santa Ynez High School website at https://syvuhsd-public.sharepoint.com/Pages/Measure-K2016.aspx.  The most important resource is a slideshow presentation (there's even a narrated version) that addresses how we got to this point, the projects (including pictures), how it's being financed and what we are doing as a school district to contribute financially to the effort.  None of the materials say "vote yes."  There's even some neat historical pictures of the various campus buildings going back to 1896.  All I am asking of Valley voters is that they would be informed when they vote.  We have worked hard to do the right thing the right way for both our students and our community.  Our proposed projects are not a want list, but a needs list only.

If you are interested in seeing a presentation of the slideshow that I have put together, I have a Valley Town Hall meeting scheduled Tuesday, October 11, SYHS Library at 6:00 p.m.  The presentation is about twenty minutes followed by a question and answer session.  Guaranteed to be less than an hour.  I do hope that you can attend.  Bring your tough questions!

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Scott Cory, Superintendent
Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District
SYVUHS Class of 1983

We need your help!

We are asking the community to help give back to those that have served our Country.  This year we are collecting toiletries.  Remember all those little shampoo bottles and soaps you collected at a hotel stay?  Those would be perfect! Other items needed are razors, hand cream, toothpaste, mouthwash, shaving cream, suntan lotion, tampons, deodorant and laundry detergent.  Come on Buellton, let's show our support for these brave men and women.  Drop off locations are at the Buellton Thrift Store and the Buellton Chamber of Commerce and the City of Buellton.

Winter Fest is coming up
December 4th marks the date of the Annual Buellton Winter Fest.  We start the day out with Breakfast with Santa and end our day on the Avenue with snow, craft vendors, food, wine/beer, music, light parade and of course the tree lighting.  We're excited to to partner with our local organizations to make this day memorable for our community.
If you are a craft vendor and would like to participate in the Winter Fest, please see the attached application.  You may fill it out and return it to the Chamber of Commerce.  There is no fee to enter and we welcome all arts and crafts.  Remember, this event takes place outside and unfortunately we are not able to provide electricity to the vendor booths, so you are welcome to bring generators and/or battery operated lights.  Thank you in advance for your participation.
Also, if you or someone you know would like to participate in the light parade, please fill out the form and return it to the Chamber.  Sorry no equestrian entries.  All entries must be lit up in some form and bicycles are welcome.
Friday Night Lights
Head on out and support the Santa Ynez Pirates on Friday Night.  JV starts at 4 and Varsity at 7pm.  If you're wondering where everyone goes on Friday...it's out to the SYV High School to watch the fighting pirates.  If you purchased advertising in the program or a banner...this is your chance to head on out and see the results.  We live in a great community where we can support one another and invest in our future generations.  This is a great way to show your support for our kids and it's a whole lot of fun! Hope to see you at the field.
Go Pirates!!

Also...Pirate discount cards are still available to purchase.  These cards cost $50 and offer savings at over 80 businesses valley wide. Be sure to get yours before they run out.  They are good for one year. Thank you to all of the businesses who have offered discounts to be present on the card. Let's show them our support by doing business with them and shop local.
