Buellton Chamber News

Food for Thought:

"It's impossible," said pride.

"It's risky," said experience.

"It's pointless," said reason.

"Give it a try," whispered the heart.

Storm Water Tip
of the Month
Provided by the City of Buellton
Storm Water Tip of the Month
Get ready for rainy season before October, trimming back vegetation and pick-up debris and litter in and along drainage areas. Did you know that the drainage swale on your property, manmade or natural, is your responsibility to maintain? Clean it up.  Your effort will help prevent flooding and property damage.
Don't forget you can divert runoff from pavement to grassy, planted or wooded areas of your property, so stormwater can seep slowly into the ground.

Water Conservation
Consider preparing your Jacuzzi for the winter by taking steps to close it down  which may include but not limited to: (1) Power Down, (2) Empty the Spa, (3) Clean Filters, (4) Loosen Fittings, (5) Blow Jets, (6) Clean the Shell and (7) Cover your Tub.  Be sure to follow manufacturer's instructions; and to dispose of spa wastewater within the City sewer system.

Greetings!

It's back to school for the kids of our valley and we wish them all the best as they enter a new year.  This is such an exciting time for the kids and can be a little nerve-racking too.

Hopefully they take on the year with a "can-do" attitude.  We are very fortunate to have such great schools here in Buellton and our teachers do an outstanding job to make the transitions go smoothly.

As a business, think about what you can do to support our youth, teachers, schools, parents and so on.  Do you offer a service that may benefit any of the above?  Can you volunteer any of your time?  Check with the local schools to see if they need volunteers - maybe at lunch time, maybe in the library, maybe helping kids get across the streets safely.  Maybe it's a coffee for the moms, dads, teachers or staff in the morning. Maybe a stay at home parent needs some pampering or a part time job while their child enters school...the list goes on.  The classrooms are often in need of basic supplies like; kleenex, hand sanitizer, toys, prizes, etc.  Just check with the local schools and see if there are any needs you may fill.

When we all come together great things happen.  Stay informed, get involved and support where and when you can.

Have a great school Year!

Here's a little funny to leave you with:

Doing Their Homework!

When Dad came home he was astonished to see Vic sitting on a horse, writing something.

'What on earth are you doing there?' he asked.
'Well, the teacher told us to write an essay on our favorite animal.' Answered Vic, 'That's why I'm here and that's why Sara's sitting in the goldfish bowl.'

  teardrop_icon.gif

The City of Buellton is proposing rate increases for Water and Sewer for both residential and businesses.  A public hearing will be held at Council Chambers, located in the library building in Buellton.  This will be at the regularly scheduled council meeting on September 22, 2016.  For background information on this proposed rate increase,  you can review the City Council packet dated July 28, 2016 for details.  Go to www.cityofbuellton.com and click on City Council, then the packet information.  Questions regarding this can be answered by calling City Hall at 686-0137.

We need your help!

We are asking the community to help give back to those that have served our Country.  This year we are collecting toiletries.  Remember all those little shampoo bottles and soaps you collected at a hotel stay?  Those would be perfect! Other items needed are razors, hand cream, toothpaste, mouthwash, shaving cream, suntan lotion, tampons, deodorant and laundry detergent.  Come on Buellton, let's show our support for these brave men and women.  Drop off locations are at the Buellton Thrift Store and the Buellton Chamber of Commerce.
