Food and Toy Drives
As we enter the holiday season, let's not forget those in need. Many businesses participate in Food / Toy Drives and offer drop off locations throughout the Valley. Here are some places to keep in mind when making your donations:
The Buellton Fire Department will be collecting Toys for Tots as well.
Also, in many cases, a cash donation may go further than the item itself. You may want to look into what is the best option for you and how to make your donation go further.

Greetings!
Recently the City held the 2nd workshop for the Avenue of Flags. Having been involved in the Visioning process over the years and hearing the input from the community, I felt the City and the economic development team took into consideration a great deal of those wants and needs to come up with a draft concept for the Avenue of Flags.
As the Chamber of Commerce, we support a specific plan for the Avenue and would like to share with you a recent letter we submitted to the City acknowledging our support.
We realize there is potential for the future of the Avenue and the planning process is key to what lies ahead. We feel by creating strong architectural guidelines, a walkable village that will accommodate events and parking, along with a town plaza; the Avenue of Flags could become a destination for locals and tourists alike.
We also feel very strongly that incentive programs should be offered on a case by case scenario as projects are proposed.
The City has a vast population of low income residents occupying a variety of motels along the Avenue. We feel strongly this needs to be addressed in the planning process and a solution for affordable housing and/or relocation of these individuals be put in place.
In the process of studying the alignment of the Avenue to calm the traffic and create a walkable downtown, we must address not only the current traffic we have on the Avenue, including a number of large vehicles, but also the impact of traffic the Avenue will experience upon completion of the development taking place on McMurray Road. It is very probable the Avenue will become the short cut to McMurray Road for residents living on the west side of the Freeway.
In summary, we support the planning and development of the Avenue of Flags, however, we would request you take into consideration the affordable housing and traffic impact as part of the planning process.
We welcome your input in the process as well. These workshops are open to the public. To view the presentation, please click on the link attached and view the Buellton #2 Workshop presentation.
Buellton is evolving, which makes for an exciting future for our City. This all contributes to the economic viability of our City. Get involved, be a part, and take pride in Buellton.

Senior Citizen Secret Santa Program
Continuing the story from last month's newsletter regarding a family who, rather than buying each other silly gifts or thoughtless gift cards, decided to pool their money and help a local senior instead. They pooled $900 and were able to fix a leaky roof, provide a brand new stove, and fixed a wall heater for one family. They experienced so much satisfaction, that they decided to do it again this year and are inviting you to consider doing this as well.
The "Senior Citizen Secret Santa" is a program designed to help our seniors with day to day needs that we may take for granted.
So how does it work? You may either donate funds to our local Senior Center or pool your funds and play Secret Santa for a particular senior after learning their specific needs.
The primary low end needs are Albertsons gift cards for basic grocery needs that are not always met on Social Security and food stamps alone. Also, gas cards to help with the fuel bills for the many Doctors appointments our seniors and their caretakers go to including some that go to dialysis in Lompoc 3-4 times per week. You may start by donating gift card sponsorships at $25.
The bigger ticket needs vary but the most important thing will be protection from the elements. This will include roof and heater repairs/replacements. There are also stoves and other appliances that need repair/replacement, vehicles that need tires or other repairs to keep them operating safely for those seniors that are still able to drive. It is a very long list of basic needs that we all take for granted.
All cash donations are tax deductible and a tax receipt will be provided. If the donor would like specifics on the individual senior or senior family being helped and what help was actually provided by their sponsorship that can be made available.
Darin Biamonte will be he primary contact for this program, but all money will be handled by the Buellton Senior Center Staff.
Thank you for thinking of our seniors as we enter our winter season. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Mixer Fees to apply in the New Year for
Non-Members
We are extremely grateful to our Mixer hosts who go above and beyond in welcoming us into their businesses time and again. We understand the costs involved in hosting a mixer, (which in many cases, is in the thousands of dollars).
Mixers are a way for our members to showcase their business and offer other members a place to network and meet fellow members. With this in mind, we feel it is our duty to continue to provide value for your membership.
We have always welcomed newcomers to our mixers to meet our members and see if our Chamber is the right fit for their business. We will continue to welcome new businesses and offer their first visit for free.
Going forward in the new year, we will be implementing a fee of $10 for Non-Members at our mixers (this will include 10 raffle tickets). All Buellton Chamber Members will continue to be FREE of charge. We are truly grateful for all of our members and people in the community who support our Chamber mixers and hope you understand the Chamber relies on member dues, mixer income and events to operate. We have put great thought and consideration into how we can continue to provide value to our members and hosts.
We thank you for your continued support and understanding.
