~~~~~~~~~~~
It brings us sadness to say good-bye to our four-legged friend JR.  Pictured below with Jim Vreeland Sr. of Vreeland Ford, JR starred in many commercials and had a great time doing so.  He lived to be 20 years and truly was man's best friend.
Greetings!
Launch....that's the theme this month.  Launch means to open, introduce, present, dispatch, and take-off.  This month, we introduce to you our new Member Directory, present to you new businesses in Buellton, and share with you the Rocket launch from Vandenberg.
We will be distributing the new directories in the next week or so and are happy to share with you this premier edition.  Inside you will find a list of our business members, important phone numbers, demographics, history of Buellton, lifestyle, schools, and the list goes on.  We owe a special thanks to all of our business advertisers who made this directory possible.  We hope you enjoy your copy and look forward to your feedback.
We welcomed new businesses to Buellton with a Ribbon cutting and we would like to wish them much success here in our City.
Our final launch was that from our neighbors to the west.  Hopefully you were able to sneak outside during the Rocket launch from Vandenberg last week and watch it as it disappeared into space.  What a beautiful sight and a part of history we witnessed.
We encourage you to launch into September with determination, clear focus, and a burst of energy.
September 25th Mixer
Restoration Oaks Vacation Rental and Blueberry Farm
Hwy 101, just before Nojoqui Rd
5-7pm
Please join the Rolland Jacks Family as they welcome us to their Farm.  You may have seen or been to the Blueberry farm just south of Buellton on Hwy 101.  Well, that's where were taking the September Mixer.  The Jacks family not only operates the Blueberry Farm, but also a vacation rental for special occasions.  Whether it's a family reunion, wedding, or corporate retreat, Restoration Oaks is the perfect place.  We hope you are able to join us as we learn more about the farm and the vacation rental.  Directions to the farm are Hwy 101 south out of Buellton and just before Nojoqui Road, you will see the Blueberry Farm on the left side of the freeway.  There is a left turning lane, which you can take to turn across the freeway to the Farm.  We'll see you there.
We greatly appreciate the continued support of our members and can't thank you enough for your gracious donations.  If you would like to promote your business and donate an item for our raffle, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 688-7829 and we'll gladly add you to our list.
    Featured Business of the Month Ostrichland
    ostrich-home-page-image
    Ever wonder what those giant birds on the side of the road are doing here?  Zoo?  Sort of...  Hatchery?  Sometimes...  Retail feather shop?  Kind of... Slaughterhouse?  No way, Jose... Daily fun for everyone?  Always!!!  Who, what, and how is Ostrich Land?
                Ostrich Land is one of the premier go-to stops in the Santa Ynez Valley for visitors from afar.  We have been around since the early 1990s.  The current location just outside of Buellton on Hwy 246 is the last remaining ostrich farm from original owner Colin Cooper.  His purpose for ostriches back then was selling breeding pairs.  Once Colin decided to move on from the ostrich business, he sold it to current owner, Trudy Brown, around 2004.  Trudy, having years of experience in retail sales, antiques, boutiques, and so on, worked her magic at Ostrich Land to turn it into one of the must-see stops in the valley.  Trudy saw major potential in these ostriches and emus, as well as this thriving area of tourism.  Why turn these lovely exotic animals into meat and leather when you can simply enjoy their quirky, goofy, and laughable company?  That was Trudy's philosophy.  Soon after getting the tourist business up and running, she called in help from her nephew Blake Fowler and family friend Nikole Sanchez.  Currently the three of them, with the help of valley locals Kane Ramirez, Annalyse Farmer, Steve Hillock and Alaska-native Nick Jurkowski, are keeping this ostrich ranch running smoothly.
                To find out what really goes on here we recommend that locals who have not been here in 20 years stop by and check us out.  Ostrich Land is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, all year long.  We offer ostrich viewing, ostrich feeding, and laughter.  The same goes for the emus, except we'll let you pet those gentle creatures.  This stop is fun for everybody: children, teenagers, seniors, moms and dads.  Check out our wonderful gift shop too.  Trudy has implemented a boutique-like feel with an ostrich theme to it.  We sell fresh ostrich and emu eggs (seasonal), blown egg shells, meat and jerky (imported), feathered earrings, fans, necklaces, boas, dusters, stuffed animals, T-shirts, and much, much more.  We are fully loaded with ostrich apparel.
                We hope to see some local faces coming out to the farm soon. We would also like to thank the Buellton Chamber of Commerce and all of the wonderful people working to make it successful.  Hope to see you soon!!!
    The Scarecrows are coming to Buellton and the entire Valley!!
    Buellton businesses are invited to participate in the Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrow Fest.  We've seen our neighboring communities celebrate the Fall season with an abundance of Scarecrows greeting you at their door, but this is the first time Buellton will also take part in this seasonal event.  Every business is welcome to participate and here are some details to get you thinking about it.
    -October 11-November 11, 2013 (Scarecrows will be on display)
    -Scarecrows will be judged and a winner will be selected from each community(Los Olivos, Los Alamos, Santa Ynez, Solvang, & Buellton).  From there, the winner from each community will then compete in the final championship for the "Harvest Cup".  The trophy will be designed and created by Hans Duus, our local blacksmith.  The winner will be announced at the Solvang Farmer's Market on November 20th and the "Harvest Cup" will remain in that community for the year until the next Scarecrow Fest.  So let's bring it to Buellton!!
    -A large deal of marketing will take place around this event, so it is a great way to expose your business to locals and visitors alike and get them into your establishment.
    Get Excited!  Start Early!  Be Creative!  Get Involved!  Have Fun!!
    Thank you to First Bank for hosting our August Mixer.
    We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the entire team at First Bank for hosting a fabulous Mixer.  Special thanks goes out to owners, Jim & Mary Dierberg,
    Vice President/Commercial Lending Officer, Wolfgang Kanschat, and Branch Manager, Karen Bowker for all of their time and energy spent in the planning of this Mixer.  They went over the top to make us feel at home and welcome us into their place of business.  Our business members enjoyed tastes of fabulous wine, Figueroa Brewing craft beer, Olsen's Bakery, Erminio Dal-Fuoco Olive Oil, and Ono Catering.  First Bank gave away prizes from a prize wheel to lucky winners who's names were drawn and the Chamber had many items to raffle off as well.  Remember, these mixers are meant to network, and meet other business persons who you may wish to do business with.  We encourage you to bring your business cards, shake some hands, and make your way through the crowd.  We've heard some great success stories come out of our Mixers where individuals were able to sign some pretty impressive deals.  The Mixers also offer a way for our hosts to invite you into their place of business and showcase what they have to offer and meet their staff.  Remember to thank them for their hospitality when you have the opportunity to do so.  As you can see, a great deal of planning and preparation goes into hosting a mixer.
