Marriott Mixer Fun!

Greetings!

Seems like I just mentioned the kids were out of school for the summer.  Believe it or not, some of the kids will be heading back to school in just a couple of weeks.  On August 14th, the High School will be back in session, while the elementary and middle schools head back to class towards the end of the month.  What does that have to do with your business you ask?  These next few weeks could mean everything.  Families will be squeezing in those last few vacations, school shopping begins, and for many of you, it means making the best of this tourism season while you still can.

August 21st Mixer

We greatly appreciate the continued support of our members and can't thank you enough for your gracious donations.  If you would like to promote your business and donate an item for our raffle, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 688-7829 and we'll gladly add you to our list.

Featured Business of the Month Cunningham Parris Construction
CPC

We want to thank the Buellton Chamber of Commerce for giving us this opportunity to introduce our company. Cunningham Parris Construction (CPC) is a general contracting firm that has done business in Santa Barbara County since 1980. Chuck Cunningham has been in construction his entire adult life, beginning in the late 1960's when he attended San Jose State. Chuck's nephew, Patrick Carroll, joined CPC in the late '90's, after completing his business degree at Chico State. Chuck's wife, Irene, takes care of the office and administrative duties.

CPC has done a wide variety of projects from custom homes to commercial buildings and just about everything in between. Some of the highlights of its 30+ years in business are renovation of an early 20th-century adobe hunting lodge, turning the 8th and 9th floors at the Granada Building into a luxury penthouse, turning the old Knapp College building into offices for SB Cottage Hospital, renovating the residence hall at Old Mission Santa Barbara, building a residence hall at the San Lorenzo Seminary, and the many beautiful homes we have built or remodeled for people that we now consider friends.

Currently, we have just helped complete the new Carrgasacchi/Loring wine tasting room in Buellton. The expansion of the Succulent Caf in Solvang and construction of two new mixed-use buildings in Santa Ynez are underway.

We are very grateful for all the wonderful customers we have had through the years and for the talented and dedicated employees and subcontractors with whom we have worked.

Thank you to the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott for hosting our July Mixer.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mike Hendrick and his entire staff for hosting another fabulous mixer.  The Marriott always goes above and beyond to welcome our Chamber and share with us their generous hospitality.  Our guests were welcomed with yellow construction tape, hard hats, ladders, scaffolding and much more to announce the upcoming renovation that will be taking place at the Marriott.  Various renderings of the new look were on display for all to see.  The Marriott will not only be doing a complete renovation of the rooms and public areas, but will also be adding 52 new rooms to the West side of the hotel.  We look forward to all of the new additions and changes and are truly fortunate to have this beautiful property in the City of Buellton.  In addition to all the exciting remodel news, we can't forget to mention the delicious food, beer & wine our guests were treated to as well.  Chef Ofelio was busy preparing a variety of items from the lobby menu, while the sales and catering team went to work setting up a cozy atmosphere for our guests to enjoy.  The Marriott definitely knows what teamwork is all about and we are extremely grateful for their hospitality.
Our sincere thanks goes out to the following businesses who were so kind to donate an item for our raffle:

Meet our New Members
Loring Wine Company and Cargasacchi Wine:

The doors have opened to The Loring Wine Company, and Point Concepcion/ Cargasacchi Tasting Room on Highway 246 next to the Hitching Post in Buellton.

Long term friends and wine makers Brian Loring and Peter Cargasacchi, have joined forces and refurbished the property at 420 E HWY 246 in to a beautiful new tasting room.

Peter Cargasacchi, fifth generation from Italy of his family in California, planted his first vineyard in 1998 in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, and began planting the subsequent Jalama Vineyard. The roots of the Cargasacchi winemaking philosophy are found in the Italian traditional pairing of food and wine at mealtimes. Using estate fruit Peter produces Pinot Noirs under the Cargasacchi label and one late harvest Pinot Grigio. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Syrah are also produced under the Point Concepcion label from estate and locally purchased fruit.

Brain Loring is self-confessed Pinot Noir freak, and stared making wine in 97. The philosophy on making wine is that the fruit is everything. What happens in the vineyard determines the quality of the wine. Loring does not own any vineyards and instead seek out the best growers in the best regions and tells them to farm the acres the same way they do their own.The first vintage of Loring Wine was 1999. By the next year, Loring was sourcing pinot from two great vineyards in: Clos Pepe and Garys'. More and more vineyards were added each year (adding Cargasacchi Vineyard to the lineup in 2003). Loring now produces ten vineyard designated Pinot Noir's from vineyards throughout California, Chardonnay, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cabernet under the Loring Wine Company label.

Peter Cargasacchi and Brian Loring's wines are available for purchase at the new facility. The tasting room is open Thursday through Monday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and offers two wine flights, as well as by the glass and bottle purchase. There is also an outside space for enjoying a picnic, or just sipping on some great wine as you watch the world go by.

The Scarecrows are coming to Buellton and the entire Valley!!
Buellton businesses are invited to participate in the Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrow Fest.  We've seen our neighboring communities celebrate the Fall season with an abundance of Scarecrows greeting you at their door, but this is the first time Buellton will also take part in this seasonal event.  Every business is welcome to participate and here are some details to get you thinking about it.
-October 11-November 11, 2013 (Scarecrows will be on display)
-Scarecrows will be judged and a winner will be selected from each community(Los Olivos, Los Alamos, Santa Ynez, Solvang, & Buellton).  From there, the winner from each community will then compete in the final championship for the "Harvest Cup".  The trophy will be designed and created by Hans Duus, our local blacksmith.  The winner will be announced at the Solvang Farmer's Market on November 20th and the "Harvest Cup" will remain in that community for the year until the next Scarecrow Fest.  So let's bring it to Buellton!!

-A large deal of marketing will take place around this event, so it is a great way to expose your business to locals and visitors alike and get them into your establishment.

Get Excited!  Start Early!  Be Creative!  Get Involved!  Have Fun!!

How to Build a Scarecrow - View this Power Point presentation.  Please check out this power point to learn more about building the perfect scarecrow.  It will take you through step by step instructions so you won't have to worry.  We'll keep you posted as to Buellton's categories and our judging format as soon as we assemble that information.  This power point is from the Solvang Chamber of Commerce and pertains to their past scarecrow fest.
