Thank you Mother Hubbard's Restaurant
Our members enjoyed a fun, filling evening at Mother Hubbard's Restaurant for our Annual Re-gifting, Potluck Mixer.  This is always a great way to start the year and enjoy the spirit of our community.  Jon cooked up his delicious pulled pork sandwiches and the potluck pleasers that showed up made for great sides.  Thank you to all who came out and brought food and the huge selection of gifts for the raffle.  We needed a bigger table to put them all on...wow!  Again, thank you Jon, Doniece, and their entire family for their continue support and generosity.  We always look forward to starting a new year with Mother Hubbard's.

On a Mission - Ascendant Spirits Distillery

The first legal distillery located in Santa Barbara County since Prohibition ended began production on January 25th, 2013 in Buellton and opens its doors to the public on March 1st. Organized with family and friends by President & Master Distiller Stephen Gertman, Ascendant Spirits is on a mission to distill the very best of the best to make ultra premium whiskies, vodkas, gins, and other spirits. They use the finest American grains and the finest, fresh, locally sourced and sustainably grown organic produce. Ascendant Spirits is proud to be part of the growing American craft spirits revival. This means they hand craft all their products in small batches, paying meticulous attention to quality and detail each step of the way. They believe the results are well worth the trouble.

Why Buellton? According to Stephen, he chose to locate in Buellton for several reasons.

n  The business friendly town is located close to one of the finest fruit and two of the finest wine growing regions in the country. This means the fresh fruit critical to flavoring several of Ascendant's clear spirit offerings arrives at the distillery while still at peak flavor. Also, the proximity of vineyards and wineries ensures that the highest quality wine grapes are available for spirits production.

n  The climate: Warm days and cool coastal-moderated nights create unique and beneficial conditions for the barrel aging of whiskey, resulting in mellow, yet rich and layered flavor profiles.

n Building out a state of the art facility in Buellton enabled Ascendant Spirits to join an existing community of fine beverage producers including Terravant Winery, Margerum Winery and Figueroa Mountain Brewery to form what they hope will become known as The Buellton Beverage Center, a tourist hub featuring all three classes of beverages, complete with dining facilities.

n  Buellton's proximity to the 101 Freeway provides easy access to Ascendant for visitors and the freight transportation of glass and grains vital to the production of ultra premium American whiskies, vodkas and gins.

n  Last, but not least, Stephen Gertman loves Santa Barbara County and the Central Coast.

Ascendant Spirits will be proud to show you their impressive American made 500 gallon copper still, their smaller experimental still, stainless steel fermentation tanks, and their enormous cooker as well as all the pipes, valves and gizmos that keep distillers happy. You may also sample available products. Please call the distillery for tasting room and distillery tour hours: (805) 691-1000
