Partnering for Progress was glad to co-host this year's 4th-quarter investor meeting along with the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC) and Whirlpool.  The event featured a regional update from the DDC as well as an update on the region's UAV initiative.  Senator Bill Beagle and DCED Director Marc Saluk addressed workforce development matters, while Whirlpool Plant Manager Ken Hossler provided a company update. Tours of the facility were given to about 38 attendees following the presentations. A big thanks to all who helped make this event a success

Area Superintendents Learn About Career Opportunities at Midmark, Crown

Superintendents Tour Midmark Corporation

Superintendents and other school officials toured Midmark & Crown recently as part of Darke County's workforce development initiative. Schools from four counties were present as the companies informed the group of career opportunities and skills that students need to succeed with two of the area's top employers. The 6-hour event was amazing and informative, start to finish. Thanks so much to those fine organizations and to the participating schools as well!

Darke County CIC Issues its First-Ever Small Business Loan

CIC Loan Program Board Meets with Applicant

Jim Poeppelman, Todd Porter, Matt Steyer

The Darke County CIC, governing board of the economic development office, has issued the first loan from the entity's new low-interest revolving loan fund.  The small business loan program, funded mainly through a grant from USDA, is designed to foster growth and job creation in the local economy.  According to officials, the benefits of the program are that, compared to most incentives programs, the CIC loan program is controlled locally and can therefore be executed quickly and with more ease. There are still funds available in this program for other small businesses who create at least one new job through an upcoming project.  More to come shortly on the CIC's recent loan.

In the meantime, thanks very much to three banking institutions who are P4P investors and have placed representatives on the loan review committee for this new program.  Shawn Daugherty (Greenville Federal), Jerry Bey (Versailles Savings & Loan), and Russ Badgett (Second National Bank) all contributed their time to help the CIC board make an informed lending decision.  A HUGE thanks to DCED Office Manager Melanie Nealeigh for running this program for P4P, and to CIC Treasurer Matt Kolb for all his hard work and input on this project. As with everything else in P4P, it was truly a team effort.

State & Regional VIPs Visit Darke for Workforce Update

                   CTEC Visit 11-1-12

A variety of state & regional representatives have descended upon Darke County of late to stay informed about the county's workforce development initiative. On November 1st representatives from the State Board of Regents, the Dayton Development Coalition, and the state legislature (Richard Adams, Jim Buchy) all visited the economic development office to meet with the workforce development team.  As the delegation ate lunch, the workforce team provided an update on activities and upcoming plans, while soliciting feedback on these efforts.

Following that, the Greenville CTEC's Wave One Shuttle transported the team to the CTEC for a tour of programs there and shared plans to integrate incumbent worker training into the efforts.

Workforce Development Team 10-23-12

Previously, on Oct 23rd, Senator and newly-appointed member of the Governor's Workforce Development Board, Bill Beagle, took a solo tour of the CTEC, also receiving a full-county workforce development update in the process

Efforts to appraise state and regional personnel about the county's workforce efforts are extremely important due to the current studies and programs being pursued in this area under the Kasich administration.

Darke County CIC Board Expands

Expansion enables P4P effort to better tackle workforce development initiative

DARKE COUNTY- The Darke County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), the governing board of the county's Partnering for Progress (P4P) initiative, has announced the addition of five new seats on the board and several other recent personnel changes.  According to officials, the changes are designed to better enable P4P, the county's collaborative economic development effort, to tackle the recently-launched workforce development initiative by adding more manufacturers, HR personnel, and educators. The additions follow a summer of re-organization for the CIC, all aimed at better preparing the group to follow through on the goals of the P4P program.

Dynamic Weld Wins Honda Supplier of the Year

Honda Supplier of the Year Award   Dynamic Weld Team 10-12-12

On October 12th, Dynamic Weld in Osgood received Honda's Supplier of the Year Award.  This is the second year in a row that Dynamic Weld has been so honored. Only 6 out of 4,500 companies received this award from Honda this year. In addition to the Honda recognition, the Darke County Commissioners also presented a special commendation to this hidden-gem of a company in the county's northeast corner.

Incorporated in 1981, Dynamic Weld originally operated out of a 1,200 square foot building with the majority of its business provided by local farmers and manufacturing companies. Dynamic Weld would grow to become a key supplier to global companies such as General Motors, Honda and International Truck.

A Farewell, THANKS, and Best of Luck to Randy Gump!

Randy Gump & Jim Peoppelman     Senate Congratulations

The Darke County CIC recently presented Randy Gump (departing Versailles Village Administrator) with recognition for the work he has done for economic development in Versailles and Darke County, and for his contributions to Darke County Economic Development and the success of the Partnering for Progress program. Randy's work as the Versailles Village Administrator is well documented, but his P4P contributions may not be as well known.  Randy was a pivotal part of the development and implementation of this effort from its start.  In addition, he served on the independent search committee in charge of hiring the new economic development director, and has been an officer on the CIC board for all of P4P's existence.  His leadership helped grow the organization into the success it enjoys today and his input will surely be missed.

Obviously feeling the same way, the Village of Versailles recently held a well-attended farewell event for Randy at the Stillwater Golf Club.  Randy received a number of recognitions and was also honored by Ohio's General Assembly.  Good luck in your future endeavors, Randy....and thanks for everything!

From Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor shared the following article from TheCourier.com

out of Findlay, OH:

By LOU WILIN  -  STAFF WRITER

State agencies are being more reasonable in the rules they propose affecting businesses, thanks to Gov. John Kasich's efforts to help businesses thrive, Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor said Tuesday.

The nearly 1,000 business-related rules proposed this year by state agencies are 55 percent less than the annual average for the past 10 years, Taylor said. Taylor heads the Common Sense Initiative, Kasich's effort to prevent creation of unreasonable regulations. She met Tuesday with Findlay Publishing Co. editors and reporters.

"Every rule proposed by every state agency that impacts business has to go through our (Common Sense Initiative) process and has to go through a business impact analysis," Taylor said.

That is making bureaucrats consider more carefully new rules they seek.
