Letter From
the President
Dear Friends,
As we approach the year-end, I'm reaching out to ask that you consider Greyston as part of your year-end giving.
This year at Greyston we celebrate our 30-year anniversary. Thirty successful years providing jobs, housing, childcare, health care and helping countless individuals on their path to a brighter future. We are proud of our track record of accomplishment and are energized about a future full of potential.
Celebrate with us by making an extra-special year-end gift.
With the uncertainty in Washington around the tax code, including potential limits on charitable donations and unknown capital gains rates, there is no better time to make a charitable gift to Greyston! You can maximize your tax savings and help scores of individuals and families with critically needed support.
Please consider making an impact gift by donating now to Greyston.
Thank you for your consideration and support.

Plunging at Greyston
Plunging is a term at Greyston that means taking a day to walk in the shoes of someone else. It's an opportunity to increase our knowledge of how our programs operate on a daily basis and understand the challenges faced by others throughout the Greyston Mandala. Greyston senior staff spend a day plunging in every one of our program and Board members are encouraged to do so as well.
Deborah Stewart, Board Chair of Greyston Family Inn and a Greyston Foundation board member recently plunged at the Child Care Center and the Bakery. "Working on the inspection line of the Bakery I learned firsthand how dedicated and hardworking are Greyston's bakers. It is unbelievably tough to stay on your feet for 12 hours a day and stay focused on producing our amazing brownies," said Deborah. "The goodness in Greyston Brownies is baked in by its great work crew. It's a day I'll never forget."

Some Portfolio Advice from a Friend of Greyston
When you review your portfolio at year-end, keep gifting strategies in mind.
Investors are preparing now for January 1, 2013, when over $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts possibly take effect. One of the best ways to draw back from this "fiscal cliff" is to make a tax-exempt charitable gift. The question is: what's the best way to do it?
That depends on how -- and how much - you want to give. Cash is always the easiest way possible.
But here are some other ideas that may benefit not just your bottom line, but your portfolio's composition. As you review your portfolio for gains and losses this time of the year, you may find other ways to shift assets around. For example, check to see if you own too much stock in any companies - positions that now represent a larger percentage of your holdings than other assets.
These "concentrated positions," as they're called, could be the result of multiple splits or increase in price. Selling them could hit you with a hefty capital gains penalty. And then there are the "odd lot" positions, stocks you may have inherited or held for so long that you no longer have their original cost basis and are therefore difficult to sell. Don't hassle: give them away and reap a tax advantage while you help people In need.
Because no one gifting strategy works best for everyone, consult with your financial and tax professionals about your family legacy goals.

Thanksgiving at Greyston
A Maitri Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving at Maitri this year included a banquet of turkey and ham with all the fixings, served to members by the staff. In a "Gratitude" group that preceded the festive meal, members gave thanks to Maitri for all the growth they had experienced in the past year. Particularly notable was the number of members who were grateful for their new-found ability to "care"-- for others and for themselves. As one evidence of this, members decided to place a box in the lobby for gifts of food and other necessities for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
