Autumn Greetings to the Women Writing for (a) Change Community

null Ahhh, September and these cool, sunny sycamore days...our fall semester is underway and I am inspired to share with you the remarkable summer we had at Women Writing for (a) Change, and what to expect in the coming months.

On Tuesday July 29th, we laughed our way through the 3rd annual Evening of Female Comics at Go Bananas Comedy Club in Montgomery. Thank you to Teri Foltz who organized this fundraising event, and to the seven comics who donated their time and talent!

Summer Camp enrollment was up significantly over 2013, and feedback from girls and parents was overwhelmingly positive. We served a total of 57 girls and young women this year, and many of them plan to return for our school year offerings and our 2015 camps.

This year's Summer Writing Retreat for Women was attended by 13 writers, including three from out of state. A summer Poetry mini- series, taught by Pauletta Hansel, was well-attended and will be expanded to a six-week class in October and November.

Who's Who
at Women Writing for (a) Change

Spotlight on:  Heather Snyder

Heather Snyder found Women Writing for (a) Change in 2001 and quickly became a regular student and a frequent assistant to then facilitator, Kathy Wade. This experience of helping behind-the-scenes planted a seed which whispered "I want to work here someday." In 2010, she took a volunteer role as editor and publisher of WWf(a)C's eNewsletter. Though motherhood took the center stage in her life (and writing a back seat), this work allowed her to stay connected to the community...

What is the Piece of the Week?

With the launch of our new website earlier this year (have you seen it yet?), WWf(a)C began featuring writings from our community members in a section called Piece of the Week.  This is a wonderful way for our writers to share their words with a wider audience.  For those who haven't had the chance to take one of our classes, the pieces offer just a small taste of the type of writing women and young women share in our circles.

We will continue adding a new poem, essay, or writing from our current class participants each week.  Check it out and get inspired!
