NEMW Region-Based Study on Crop Rotation Highlighted in NYT
| |
A study by researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the University of Minnesota, and Iowa State University, noted in The New York Times, showed that
synthetic agrichemical inputs do not need to "drive" agroecosystem performance.
Instead, they can be used to simply "tune" it. The researchers showed that diversified cropping systems can be combined effectively with lower agrichemical inputs to control weeds and maintain crop productivity. The authors state that such an approach is capable of "meeting or exceeding the [agroecosystem] performance of less diverse systems."
