The Art of Collecting Art - Thursday, June 6
Helen Addison, of the Addison Gallery in Orleans showing contemplative, decorative art and Chris Quidley of Quidley & Company, Nantucket's and Boston's finest purveyor of Marine, Figurative, Still Life, and Landscape Artwork, will speak on the Art of Collecting Art.  They will consider the reasons for collecting art , what to look for in an artist's background and the importance of collecting emerging artists.  In addition, they will address the financial aspects of art collecting--price-range, insurance, estate planning and selling artwork.

Demo Derby - Sunday, June 9, 2-4pm
Join as for an afternoon of demonstrations by teachers and members of the Falmouth Artists Guild.  Artists include Kate Aubrey, water color teacher, Susan Jensen, children�s teacher, Betsy Payne Cook, pastel teacher, Suzy Bergmann, weaving teacher, and members Ruth Leech, David Kelley, Betty Jameson, Helen Koehler and Linda Walker.  The variety of media to be demonstrated will include watercolor, oil, pastel, and printmaking.  Admission is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.

Teaming Up for Tweens, ages 9-12

 

Do you know how many things in our everyday lives have been inspired by nature?  Nature's patterns and designs provide a blueprint for use in our everyday life.  Spend four days discovering the impact that nature has made at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Arts, the Falmouth Art Center, Falmouth Museums on the Green, and Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries.

  • May 22: Chihuly: Gardens and Glass:
    This hour-long documentary follows glassblower and sculptor Dale Chihuly as he prepares to set up several of his breathtaking glass sculptures at Chicago's Garfield Park Conservatory, one of the United States' biggest and most historic greenhouses.  Chihuly has impressed countless people with his lifelike, glass-blown pieces and unique artistic methods.  More than a half-million people ultimately visited the exhibit.
  • June 12: The Collector: Allan Stone's Life in Art:
    Filmmaker Olympia Stone presents a cinematic portrait of her father, famed New York City gallery owner and art collector Allan Stone, in this fascinating documentary tracing his rise in the international art world from the 1950s to 2006. Regarded as a pioneering collector, Allan Stone was considered an expert on the work of Abstract Expressionists, particularly Willem de Kooning, Arshile Gorky, Barnett Newman and Franz Kline.  62 minutes.
  • June 26: Who Gets to Call it Art?:
    In the 1960s, as the Metropolitan Museum of Art's first curator of contemporary art, Henry Geldzahler bore witness to an exciting era in history that saw the rise of Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns and the iconic Andy Warhol.  This vibrant documentary combines Geldzahler's recollections of his experiences with rare footage and interviews with working artists of the period, including David Hockney, James Rosenquist and Frank Stella.  80 minutes.
  • July 10: The Desert of Forbidden Art:
    Trace the incredible story of defiant visionary Igor Savitsky, an artist and museum curator who cunningly acquired more than 40,000 banned Soviet Union paintings and hid the illegal collection from the KGB in Uzbekistan's Nukus Museum.  In addition to rare archival footage and interviews with the artists' children, this absorbing documentary also features letters and diary entries read by Ben Kingsley, Sally Field and Edward Asner.  80 minutes.

MEMBERS NEWS


Rich Ferreira's 3D Bay Terrapin was awarded honorable mention at the Plymouth Center for the Arts Juried Tactile Art Show.  It will be on exhibit through June 1 at the Plymouth Center for the Arts, 11 North Street in downtown Plymouth.

Marilyn Rowland will be announced as Producer of the Year at the FCTV annual meeting at the Flying Bridge on May 23.

 

CONGRATULATIONS!!  Guy Heitmann's photograph, Buchenwald, has been awarded Best In Show in the 2013 Doors, Gates and Windows of the World online photography exhibit with the Photography Center of Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Art Association.

 

Robert Roark and Anita Winstanley Roark are currently exhibting at Sotheby's International Realty in West Falmouth. 

David Kelley is exhibiting 5 Spring images in pastel and acrylic during the month of May at the Quarterdeck Restaurant in Falmouth.  Restaurant hours are from 10:30am to about 10pm. 

Presently showing in the Thomas E. Hanley Art Gallery in the Faxon Center
of the Falmouth Hospital is an exhibition of David Etler's artwork Fantasia in Pen & Ink, etc. from April 27 to June 29.

Joan Vaughn has two of her original watercolor paintings on display and for sale at the Phusion Restaurant in Woods Hole. 
 
Abby Lammers' painting, Chappy Island Early Evening, was recently accepted into the 77th National Midyear Exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.  The exhibition will runs from June 30 through August 18. 
 
Helen Koehler will be exhibiting her recent work at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Falmouth located on Sandwich road during the months of April and May.
