Friends & Family Luncheon This Week Be sure to join your student Tues or Wed
This week is the annual Friends & Family luncheon at NES. Come out and eat some festive fare. Guests meals cost $3.50 per person.Tuesday, Nov. 10th: 1st Grade, 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, & Multi-Age (Dills/Caputo). Wednesday, Nov. 11th: Pre-K, Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 4th Grade, & Small Group Classrooms.

Monster Book Fair Starts This Week!

Informational Science Fair meeting Wednesday
Does your child like to design experiments? Does he or she like to explore science concepts? Well, the Science Fair is for them! Please join us for an informational student and parent meeting, Wednesday Nov. 11th from 7:20-7:50 a.m. in the Science Lab.

Butter Braids Fundraiser Ending Soon
Help support Relay for Life. Orders due Nov. 18.
Brochures and order forms for the Butter Braids pastries, cheesecakes, and cookie dough were sent home last week. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society through our Relay for Life team at Nickajack.
Completed order forms and payment are due by November 18th, and parent pick up of the items is scheduled for December 2nd from 2:30pm-4:00pm. Please refer to the flyer that went home for the complete details. |
Vendors Needed for Holiday Market
Tables available for December 1st event
The holiday season is coming, and as a special service the Nickajack Relay for Life team will be sponsoring a "Holiday Market" on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. This will be an after school event from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and we are looking for vendors who would like to participate in the event. One table will be available for $25.00; 2 tables for $40.00 (donation to Relay for Life). Vendors will receive all proceeds from their sales at the event.
If you would like to rent a table, please turn in the completed form sent home with your child, or email the information to Beth Smith, at beth.smith@cobbk12.org.
Students, families, and staff will have the chance to shop for gifts for family and friends at the Santa Store. All items will be on sale for $3.00. Free gift wrapping! We are looking forward to this fun-filled event! Thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life Team at Nickajack Elementary School.

Read For Recycling 2015 Starts This Week!
Read recycling books Nov. 9th - 15th.
Reading and Recycling are important habits to form. The Georgia Recycling Coalition is excited to encourage both reading and recycling through the Read for Recycling program. This program is part of the state America Recycles Day (ARD) celebration. Click here to find your Reading Journal and a suggested Reading List
For the first time in Georgia, during the week of November 9-15, 2015, K-12 school students are encouraged to read books that celebrate, educate, and encourage waste reduction activities. Follow these easy steps to participate. - Read a minimum of five waste reduction/recycling books; record them, and journal what you learned about waste reduction/recycling from the book in your Reading Journal.
- Once complete mail your Reading Journal to the Georgia Recycling Coalition, Read for Recycling Program, P.O. Box 550667, Atlanta, Georgia 30355.
- The Reading Journal is due on November 25, 2015
The school with the most participants wins a set of books for their library! Students who complete the reading journal and mail it in by November 24, 2014 will be included in a drawing to win one of 6 (six) $50 Barnes & Noble Gift cards. |
Thanks For Giving Food Drive Starts This Week Food drive runs Nov. 9th-18th Nickajack will be collecting food items for The Center for Family Resources, which provides over 1,500 Thanksgiving baskets to Cobb families each year. Thanksgiving week can be even more financially stressful when students are home from school for more than just the holiday meal. Through participation in the annual Thanks for Giving food drive, our generous community captures the true spirit of Thanksgiving.
With harvesting hands and a helping heart, please consider donating one of the following items to our food drive:
- Canned Gravy
- Canned Cranberry Sauce
- Canned Potatoes
- Canned Green/Yellow Vegetables
- Canned Pumpkin Pie Mix
- Canned Milk
- Canned Meat, Tuna, or Ham
- Canned Fruit
- Canned Soup
Beginning Nov. 9th, please send any food items you would like to donate to school with your child. There will be collection barrels located outside the main office.

"Intro to Parenting 101" will take place Dec. 3rd
The next Parenting Workshop offered by Nickajack will take place on December 3 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The workshop includes FREE dinner (from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) as well as FREE childcare. After School Art Class Coming in December
Students make artful gifts. Register now!
Let your child make artful gifts for loved ones this holiday season! The art class will be on three Tuesdays in December (1st, 8th, and 15th) from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This year, students will make hand-painted scarves inspired by artist Allan D'Arcangelo. Each student will make three gifts!

Announcing NES Reflections Winners
Finalists will compete on Nov. 14th
Thank you to all of the Nickajack students that submitted an entry into the annual PTA Reflections Creativity contest. The NES finalists will be moving forward to compete at the Jessye Coleman Council, and there is ceremony on November 14th where we will learn who will be moving forward to the state competition.
