REMEMBER: Early Dismissal This Week
Due to parent-teacher conferences, school ends at 12:10pm Oct. 19-23.

This week is Conference Week! There will be no after school clubs or enrichment programs, and ASP will begin at the conclusion of dismissal, which starts at 12:10pm.

Please make every effort to be punctual for your scheduled conference times, or to contact the teacher to reschedule.

Bus drivers have the difficult task of getting many of our children to school and home again safely. Be sure to show them how thankful you are especially today on Bus Driver Appreciation Day! 
School Council Elections Are This Week
Vote this week in the Front Office

Please stop by the Front Office this week while you are there for your parent-teacher conference to cast your vote for two parent candidates for the NES School Council. The nominees' bios are posted at the Front Office.

A school council functions as an advisory body, offering recommendations and assistance to the school principal and whenever appropriate, the superintendent and Cobb County Board of Education on any matter relating to student achievement and school improvement.

Come and hang out with fellow Nickajack families, teachers, and administration at the Chick-fil-A Sprit Night Tuesday, October 20th from 5pm to 7pm, at our PTA Platinum Pal  Chick-fil-A located at 3100 South Cobb Drive, near Kroger. The teachers from the Specials team will be hosting, so bring the family for dinner and show your spirit!

Be sure to sign the guest book during your visit, as a percentage of sales goes back to Nickajack.
Reflections Contest Entries Due Today
Submit to the Front Office by Oct. 19th

Entries for the The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is today, October 19th. Complete details, rules, and entry forms are on our  PTA website.

Students can also pick up an entry form from Ms. Bonadona. Winning entries advance to the Cobb County Jessye Coleman Council for competition. County winners advance to State, and State to the National PTA Competition.

Volunteers are needed! Please review time slots and sign up here if you can assist for just 30 minutes before, during, or after the Dash.

Great auction items! Thanks to all the parents, staff, and friends of Nickajack who have donated so many generous items for the Silent Auction following the Nickajack Dash this Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015.


The Silent Auction will start at the conclusion of the Dash. Parents, neighbors and friends can browse the tables of goodies while the kids enjoy plenty of fun activities!

Top auction items include:
  • Weekend stay with breakfast for two at the Renaissance Waverly
  • Two-night stay for up to 8 at a waterfront home on Lake Wedowee, AL
  • Two-night stay for up to 4 at oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach
  • Matt Ryan autographed football
  • In-house field trip from Imagine That to the winner's class
  • More items are listed on our PTA website.

Enrollment Is Now Open For The i9 Winter Season
Register early for best pricing!

The 2016 Indoor Winter Season of our PTA Pal, I9 Sports, will start January 9th or January 10th. Register today for the best pricing and to ensure a spot in the leagues. The following sports will be indoors and co-ed:
Saturday Programs: January 9th to February 20th
  • Soccer Leagues (3-8yr olds) - Nickajack
  • Flag Football (4-8 yr olds) - Nickajack
  • Instructional Basketball (5-11yr olds) - Griffin Middle
  • Basketball Leagues (6-10yr olds) - Griffin Middle
Sunday Programs: January 10th to February 21st
  • T-Ball (3-4yr olds) - Nickajack
  • Instruction Soccer (4-8yr olds) - Nickajack

Next Week is Red Ribbon Week
There will be 5 fun days of dress up!

Red Ribbon Week is a week dedicated to showing kids they have the power to be Drug Free! Here are this year's Red Ribbon Week dress up days:
  • Monday, Oct. 26th, wear red clothing to show you are "RED"y to Live a Drug-Free Life. 
  • Tuesday, Oct. 27th, wear mismatched or crazy socks. Let's 'sock-it to' drugs
  • Wednesday, Oct. 28th, wear a team jersey so you can 'team up' against drugs.
  • Thursday, Oct. 29th, wear a fun hat. Hats off to being drug free.
  • Friday, Oct. 30th, dress as your favorite super hero* because you have the POWER to be drug free.
 *Please Note:  This can include dressing as your favorite hero from a book, person from history, etc.
It's Not Too Late To Run the Nickajack Dash 
Onsite registration available on race day, Oct. 24!

Though the t-shirt deadline has passed, students, staff, families and friends are still invited to register for the 1.5 mile Nickajack Dash on-line by this Friday, or onsite Saturday, October 24, 2015. After the Dash, there will be a silent auction, snacks, face painting and other fun activities for the kids. This year, prizes will be awarded to the race winners by gender and grade level. 

NEW for 2015: The Nickajack Dash has gone to the dogs...sort of. The Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption have graciously agreed to bring some of their cute family-friendly dogs to the Nickajack Dash! After finishing the run, kids (and parents) will be able to take photos with the adorable pooches in a fun photo booth for a small fee of $1.
Live Music Fridays Comes To Nickajack!
Live concerts will take place during lunch. 

 Thanks to tireless efforts by the PTA, Nickajack students are being treated to live music during their lunch periods on select Fridays throughout the year. Campbell High School and at Pebblebrook High School are helping to launch "Live Music Fridays @ Nickajack."  
 
Musicians will play from 10:20 AM to 1:01 PM (with breaks each hour), covering the entire span of lunch, from the first Pre-K class to the last 5th grade class! If able, please come have lunch with your child(ren) to enjoy this auditory treat.

NES Families Are Invited To See Bugsy Malone 
The production features Nickajack student, Hayes Ray 

Nickajack students are invited to bring their families to see the all-youth production of Bugsy Malone at the Mable House Amphitheater the weekend of November 6-9. Kids 12 and under are free!  

Come support fellow Nckajack Brave Hayes Ray as he plays the role of a bad guy and enjoy the theater with your family!

Box Tops Classroom Competition Continues

Box Tops Earn Cash
Have you been clipping and saving your Box Tops all summer? Now is the time to turn them in! Our first classroom competition of the school year continues through October 28th.

Each box top is worth 10 cents! Cut out and trim the Box Tops coupons, include the name of your student's teacher, and place them in the blue collection box located in the lobby.  Box Tops can also be attached to this  Just be sure to include the teacher's name.  The class with the most Box Tops wins an ice cream party, and the top class of each grade also wins a prize!
