October 14th is the Last Day to Donate for Silent Auction

Nickajack Dash
To donate an item or a monetary gift to the Silent Auction fundraiser, please return the form by tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14th. You can print out and return the form here.

The Silent Auction will start at the conclusion of the Dash, where parents can browse while the kids enjoy plenty of fun activities!

Thanks to the parents, teachers and sponsors who have already submitted items. Top auction items include:
  • Weekend stay with breakfast for two at the Renaissance Waverly
  • Two-night stay for up to 8 at a waterfront home on Lake Wedowee, AL
  • Two-night stay for up to 4 at oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach
  • Matt Ryan autographed football
  • In-house field trip from Imagine That to the winner's class
TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO DONATE!  Last year's event was a huge success. We were able to raise $14,000 for our PTA. We want to secure continued success for 2015!

Nickajack Dash Registration Extended!
Register by Tomorrow to Get a T-Shirt

Sign Up to Dash!
Register by TOMORROW if you'd like a T-Shirt, otherwise  registration will be open until Friday, October 16th!

The 1.5 mile Nickajack Dash will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2015. After the dash, there will be a silent auction, snacks, face painting and other fun activities for the kids. This year, prizes will be awarded to the race winners by gender and grade level. 

And NEW for 2015: The Nickajack Dash has gone to the dogs...sort of. The Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption have graciously agreed to bring some of their cute family-friendly dogs to the Nickajack Dash! After finishing the run, kids (and parents) will be able to take photos with the adorable pooches in a fun photo booth for a small fee of $1.

Please come join us for Firehouse Subs Nickajack PTA night on Wednesday, October 14 from 5 PM to 8 PM. The Firehouse Subs is located at the intersection of South Cobb Dr. and East-West Connector adjacent to the Publix shopping center. 

There will be face painting and firemen hats for all children. 10% of all sales will be donated to the Nickajack PTA. We look forward to seeing you then!

Help get everyone excited about the upcoming Dash by wearing your favorite Dash shirt to school this Friday, October 16th.

Annual Contest Deadline is Next Monday!

Do you have a creative student? The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students, with a total of 6 categories:  Dance, Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Film, and Music Composition. This year's theme is "Let your Imagination Fly".  Division winning entries advance to the Cobb County Jessye Coleman Council for competition. County winners advance to State, and State to the National PTA Competition.

Parent Teacher Conferences & Early Dismissal Next Week
School Ends 2 Hours Early All Week!

During Conference Week next week, there will be no after school clubs or enrichment programs, and ASP will begin at the conclusion of dismissal, which starts at 12:10pm.

Please make every effort to be punctual for your scheduled conference times, or to contact the teacher to reschedule.

A school council functions as an advisory body, offering recommendations and assistance to the school principal and whenever appropriate, the superintendent and Cobb County Board of Education on any matter relating to student achievement and school improvement.

Your Feedback is Important to NES!

Please take about 5 minutes to complete an anonymous, online School Climate Parent Survey. You may complete the survey on your personal computer, smartphone, iPad or you may stop by the Media Center before or after your student's conference and complete the survey. The survey is available in English and Spanish.

The data will be used to calculate our School Climate Star Rating for CCRPI. All surveys are anonymous and responses will be submitted directly to the GA Department of Education for analysis.

Back the Jack VIP Parking Winners Announced
Congratulations to the Rubenstein and Pechi Families

Congrats to the Rubenstein Family - one of 2 winners of the VIP parking space at NES! The other winner is the Pechi family (Isabella is in 4th grade), who will assume the space after the February break!

The sign is up and their name will be added to it soon! So please don't park in the first spot unless you are a Rubenstien! We will know who you are... :) The Rubensteins will soon be sporting a rear view mirror tag in each of their cars. Congrats!

Ms. Lasiter's 4th grade class came in 1st in the classroom contest with the highest amount raised by the October 2nd deadline.


Congrats to them and their families, and thank you to EVERYONE who supported this years BACK the JACK campaign! We made INCREDIBLE progress in the last week toward our goal with over $46,000 raised so far (and corporate matching dollars still to come!) Donations are ALWAYS welcome, and can be made any time on the NESF website. The Foundation will be posting updates there and on the NESF Facebook page as materials, programs (and hopefully iPAD carts!) are purchased and are IN our school!
Box Tops Classroom Competition Continues

Box Tops Earn Cash
Have you been clipping and saving your Box Tops all summer? Now is the time to turn them in! Our first classroom competition of the school year continues through October 28th.

Each box top is worth 10 cents! Cut out and trim the Box Tops coupons, include the name of your student's teacher, and place them in the blue collection box located in the lobby.  Box Tops can also be attached to this sheet just be sure to include the teacher's name.  The class with the most Box Tops wins an ice cream party, and the top class of each grade also wins a prize!

We missed the opportunity to announce Ainsley last week and want to celebrate her incredible achievement. Ainsley, a second grader last year, self-registered in the contest and logged a whopping 11,302 minutes.
