Nominations for School Council Needed
Deadline to submit nominations is this Wednesday, September 30th

The Nickajack School Council is actively seeking new parent members. A school council functions as an advisory body, offering recommendations and assistance to the school principal and whenever appropriate, the superintendent and Cobb County Board of Education on any matter relating to student achievement and school improvement.

We are entertaining nominations for 3 parents. Two parents for a 2 year term and 1 parent for an unexpired 1 year term. If you are interested, nomination forms are available in the school office or here. The deadline to submit nominations is Wednesday, September 30th.

You can email your nomination to Ms. Beth Smith, the school secretary, at beth.smith@cobbk12.org. You can download the nomination form HERE. Prior to nominating a candidate, it's a good idea to touch base with the prospective nominee to ensure that he/she desires to run for the position.

The person nominated will need to submit a biography along with a picture to the office staff for posting by Friday, October 2. The nominations will be posted along with bios and pictures of the candidates so that parents will be knowledgeable about the nominees prior to voting.

Voting will take place Monday, October 19th through Friday, October 23rd during normal school hours. Ballots will be available in the front office and all ballots will be placed in a locked ballot box.
Last Week to BACK the JACK!
We are behind at only $23,000 and we need your help!

Please consider making a donation to BACK the JACK. The last day for the campaign is Friday, October 2 and we still have a long way to go to reach our goal. Many technology and curriculum enhancements are on the line.

We wish to purchase fully loaded iPad carts, fund a second computer lab, make enhancements to the Media Center, fund teacher grants and more. These worthy projects all dependend upon your support. To get a better idea of what your dollars do for our kids, please take a look at our shopping cart.

Participation is still very low across all grade levels. We need the support of ALL of our families because ALL of our children will benefit. Please take a moment and see what you can contribute, whether it be $50 or $5. Every donation helps!

Make your donations online or in person at Nickajack on the
following days:
  • Tuesday, Sept. 29, 7:15 - 7:50 a.m. & 1:45 - 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 30, 7:15 - 7:50 a.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 1, 7:15 - 7:50 a.m. & 1:45 - 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 2, 7:15 - 7:50 a.m.
Your student can also drop a donation in the black box by the front office. Make all checks payable to the NES Foundation. Does your company match? This is an excellent way to make your dollars count more! Please also encourage family, friends, and neighbors to donate! Friending NESF on Facebook makes this easy.

Thank you for your support! And don't forget to come out and celebrate the campaign with us at our 2nd Annual Great Skate for Nickajack!

Nominate a Teacher  to Win an iPad Each Week
The Marietta Daily Journal and Superior Plumbing are sponsoring"An Apple for Teacher" Giveaway

Win an iPad for teacher contest

Superior Plumbing and the Marietta Daily Journal (MDJ) have teamed up to give a local teacher, from Kindergarten to 12th grade, an iPad each week of the 2015-2016 school year. The first winner will be announced the week of October 1, 2015 and then consecutively each week through the end of May, 2016.

Parents and students can go to http://mdj.secondstreetapp.com/2015_apple_teacher/ to nominate a teacher. PTA Pal Spotlight: MathWizard
September Special - Enroll  Now with No Registration Fee

MathWizard
MathWizard of Smyrna is now enrolling students from Pre-K to High School for Math and English. Take advantage of our special this month - No registration fees and free pre assessments.

Located conveniently on Atlanta Rd, across from Campbell Middle School, MathWizard is a leading provider of supplemental enrichment education in Math and English. We think of every child as gifted and our goal is to prepare every child for academic success and acceleration.

How do we do it:
We place our students in a highly structured program that has a two-pronged approach:
  • Build basic concepts like math drills, vocabulary, and grammar
  • Enhance problem-solving skills with analytical and critical thinking word problems, comprehension, and writing
Why we are different: MathWizard is a supplement to the school system. Our greatest strength is our material. We have aligned our topic-based curriculum with Common Core standards and we incorporate challenging methods and concepts to add variety and acceleration beyond what schools may provide.

Call (678) 424-1787 or email smyrna@mathwizard.net to reserve your spot for a pre assessment!!
Be sure to mention Nickajack when you register. Mathwizard of Smyrna will be giving your PTA $5.00 per student per subject!
