Summer Reading Challenge Ends Friday
Students need to log all minutes by Sept 4th

The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge ends this Friday, September 4th, so please remind your student to log all of their reading minutes on the Scholastic web site no later than Friday.  Super Star readers will be recognized in the Media Center!

Research shows that books in the home, and involved parents make a world of difference in a child's school, and overall life success, so keep your kids reading year round!

Our NES students have read and logged over 258,000 minutes since May, and are currently in 4th place for elementary schools in Georgia. Go Nickajack!

My Friend Too is Looking for New Friends!
Now offering HANGOUTS after school!

Every child deserves a friend.  Unfortunately, for some kids this can be difficult for many reasons.  Often, it only takes finding the right kid to reach out and be a friend.

My Friend Too is a social program that will match a Nickajack student with a big heart to a kid struggling to make friends. Our goal is to develop one to one relationships between students here at Nickajack.

Kids that are matched will simply spend time together playing.  This can be anytime afterschool, weekends or during one of the many group activities (Hangouts) My Friend Too has planned throughout the year. (The first one will be September 14th!)

Encourage your child to expand his/her circle of friends.  Whether your child has difficulty socializing or your child could be a special friend, please join the My Friend Too program.

We are currently looking for both Nickajack students who need a friend and those that want to be their friend!

To enroll your child or for more information please email myfriendtoo@gmail.com. More information can be found on the

Every kid can be a great friend!
Remember to BACK the JACK  Now - October 2nd!

Bragging On Our Braves
NES 4th Grader is Regional Soccer Standout

Ben Childs Ben Childs, a 4th grade student in Ms. Lassiter's class, recently attended the invitation-only Super Y League Regional Soccer Scouting Series for elite level players.  Ben attended the 3 day program in Lake City, Florida where he competed with the top 10% of Super Y League players (aged 9 to 12) from Region 3 (TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS).

Ben participated in technical training developed by Renee Meulensteen, a former Manchester United coach, competed in matches, learned about nutrition for athletes, and attended a workshop on mental toughness and character development.

After 3 days of being evaluated and scouted by coaches from throughout the southeast, Ben was named to the Regional Scouting Series All-Star team.  Although he was the youngest (and smallest) player on his All-Star team, the coaches selected Ben as a starting defender in the All-Star game.  In the regular season, Ben plays Academy soccer at Southern Soccer Academy in Marietta, GA.

To brag on a stand-out student at Nickajack, please submit your article suggestion to the
Nickajack Beat Editor.
