Tomorrow: The First Day of School!

Car Rider Drop Off

We expect many families to be walking or dropping off their students tomorrow for the first day of school. The drop off for carpool is at the back of the building, outside the cafeteria.

For drop off, please have your student ready and wait until you see a faculty member before letting your kids exit your vehicle. For their own safety please let your kids out on the right side. We expect heavy traffic so please try to arrive early, the school doors open at 7:15am.

Tips for Walking in Your Student

Overflow parking is available at the Silver Comet Trail lot if the school parking lot is full. Mavell Road is heavily restricted to parking, please abide by the No Parking signs to avoid tickets and towing, and to allow easy access for all. Go green and carpool with a neighbor!

For safety reasons, do not allow unattended children to walk through the parking lot or on Mavell Road.

Coffee and Kleenex in the Cafeteria

Please join the PTA Board and other friendly faces immediately after you drop off your kindergartner, for some coffee, and maybe a Kleenex! We will be there to welcome you to the Nickajack community and to answer any questions you may have.

Important Policies and Procedures
For the Safety and Security of Your Children

Please help us keep all of our children safe and secure.   Please thoroughly read and adhere to these policies.

Visiting the School:
We welcome you into our school, but please stop by the front office once you are buzzed in to get a bright yellow visitor's badge.   Please do not be offended if a staff person should ask you to get one from the front office.

It is critical for the safety of all of our children that
all visitors check in via the front office and obtain a yellow visitor's badge.   Additionally, it is extremely important that we know how many people need to be accounted for in the event of an emergency and evacuation is necessary.

Bus Riders:  Students, ages eight (8) & under, will receive a bright yellow plastic tag that will be attached to their book bags.  These tags serve to remind bus drivers that these students may not be left at a bus stop if an authorized adult is not at the bus stop to greet the child.  The students will be taken back to the school, and parents/guardians will be contacted so that they can come pick up their child.

Car Riders- afternoon pick up:
All car riders must obtain a car rider number.   If you did not get one at Sneak a Peek, please visit the front office and show your picture ID. You will be assigned a unique number that your child(ren) should memorize. When you drive through the car rider line at dismissal, we will call your student by his or her car rider number.  If you do not know your number or do not have a number, you will be directed to the front office to show your picture ID to pick up your child and to get a number.   Please note, students are not permitted into the building until 7:15 am.

Car Riders - morning drop off: Please drop off your child in the designated drop off area which is located in the back staff parking lot.  There is NO drop off in the front of the school or in the bus port.

If tardy (after 7:50am), please park in the front lot and walk your child to the front office to receive a tardy pass.

Walkers -
Drop Off:  Exception for the 1st Week of School: We understand parents will want to help their children get familiar with the school and carry in school supplies.  For this week, August 3rd-7th, you may walk your child to class to help with school supply drop off and to help your child become familiar with his/her path to class.

Effective August 10th, if you are parking and walking your child into the school, we encourage you to release your child once he/she steps inside the school doors so that he/she can learn how to get to their class on their own accord.  Should you need to speak to your teacher or help your child to his or her class, please stop by the front office to get a yellow visitor's badge before you do so.

Walkers -Pick Up:
If you are walking into the school to pick up your child, please note teaching and instruction continues until 2:10 pm.  If you arrive before 2:10 pm, but after 1:30 pm, you will be asked to wait in the front lobby until dismissal.  At that time, your child will be called to the front lobby for dismissal, and you will be asked to provide your car rider number, (or a picture ID if you do not have a car rider number).   You will be directed to the front office to show your picture ID and to get a car rider number for future use.

Transportation Changes:
Changes in transportation are NOT permitted over the phone or via email.   Please note how your child will go home each day in his or her daily folder.  If a transportation change is necessary after the start of the school day, changes must be made in writing and brought or faxed to the school office BEFORE 1:30 pm.  Please fax changes to 678-842-5832 and call to confirm that your fax has been received.   All transportation changes must include the student name, teacher's name, date the change is effective, and the new mode of transportation.

Thank you helping us keep your child safe and secure during drop off and dismissal!
