Summer Reading Challenge Update
Our students have logged over 35,000 minutes!

Nickajack readers are off to a great start with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, logging over 35,000 minutes as of May 19th.

Did you know that kids that don't read over the summer are likely to fall behind by the time they head back to school? Keep the 'summer slide' away by encouraging your kids to read every day.

Students can use their log-in provided by teachers to log their reading minutes at Scholastic.com/summer.
Students in each grade, along with the teachers, helped determine reading goals for the summer, and those that reach their pledged goals by the fall will be eligible for prizes!

Brick-A-Jack: Order Deadline May 20th, 8am
Orders due tomorrow, Wednesday
playground
Thank you to the many families that have already ordered their personalized bricks, and special thanks to those that have ordered bricks to recognize their student's teacher!

There is still time to help support improvements to our playgrounds and outdoors by ordering an engraved brick, to be installed by the back playground. Orders submitted by this Wednesday, May 20th, 8am, will be installed this summer.

Purchase one brick for $40, two for just $70 or three for only $100. That's just $33.33 each! Checks only, please, written to to NES PTA.

Each brick can have up to 3 lines of text with 16 characters per line, including spaces.
Requests can be made to cluster bricks together for longer family messages, BFFs, or for neighborhoods, school groups, ASEP/Pal sponsors, etc. Clusters will be accommodated as best we can. Please staple orders together for groupings.

Be a part of Nickajack history and come help us...Brick the JACK!

Brickajack order forms are available in the Front Office, or click here to print one. Questions? Email Seth at

Thank You to our PTA and NESF Boards!
Great accomplishments for NES in 2014-15

PTA Board 2015 v2 PTA Executive Board: As we finish up the school year we would like to thank the very busy PTA Executive Board members for all their hard work this year, and for the many accomplishments they have achieved to make Nickajack a better school.

Several key highlights include:
Installation of first bike rack on campus; more after school enrichment programs than ever before; more PTA Pals than ever before; raised $14k with Dash/Auction; completed the digital sign; increased teacher reimbursement allowance; resolved the playground mud, erosion, drainage problem while adding an attractive and functional bleacher system; brought Cobb Mentoring Matters to NES; first Lego Night, and other great events including Movie Night, 3 Book Fairs, 4 FBI Reading Days, and so much more!

NESF board v2
NES Board of Directors:  Another big Thank You goes to our Board of Directors of the NES Foundation, who have also been hard at work this year raising money to help supplement educational expenses not covered by CCSD.   The members of the board dedicate their time to promote, plan and run events and fundraisers.  Through contributions from parents, the community and corporate sponsors to BACK THE JACK, The Great Skate and the recent Pajama Jam, NESF has raised over $70K this year that has all been invested into Nickajack to benefit our kids!

Several key highlights of programs funded include: Computer Room instructor and technology updates; myON Reader Program; OnCourse Lesson Plan; Edhelper planning tool; Current Events magazines; Folio Writing program for 4th and 5th grades; Tumblebook Junior; and Media Center resources: TrueFlix, FreedomFlix, Science Flix.  And nearly $15,000 of teacher grants for writing programs, iPads and classroom needs.

Volunteers:  A final Thank You goes to all our Volunteers and involved parents over the 2014-15 school year,  without you neither the PTA nor the NESF would have been able to accomplishment so much for our school, faculty, and students. Go Nickajack!
Have a wonderful summer!

Thank you NES families & staff for a wonderful 2014-2015 school year.  May you all have a fun & safe summer!
