Please Join the Fun: Volunteer at Field Day!
Sign up now to help this Thursday or Friday

Field Days are this Thursday and Friday, and it is highly suggested that each student have sunscreen and bug spray already applied prior to coming to school on their Field Day, and that they each bring a water bottle
with their name on it.
Parents- there are still many volunteer slots open. Put on your sneakers and please join in on the fun by signing up for any AM and PM slots that work best with your schedule.
Thursday, May 7th, for grades K-2:
Donations: If you cannot volunteer your time, we would appreciate donations of 3 oz Dixie cups, FROZEN freeze and eat popsicles, and bags of ice. These can be dropped off any time leading up to field day.

PTA Volunteer Appreciation Party
This Thursday, May 7th, 6:30pm to 9:30 pm
The PTA board is having a Volunteer Appreciation Party to celebrate all the wonderful efforts of our parents this year. Without volunteers in our school it would be impossible to do all the great events, activities, fundraisers, and be able to meet the needs of our teachers. So volunteers this party is for you!
An invitation has gone out, but if you did not receive an Evite and were a part of a committee or volunteered for an event please contact Ashley Bunkley (nesptaAshley@gmail.com) or the committee chair that you were a part of this year, or click HERE . Important Media Center Dates
Summer Reading Challenge has begun!
Summer Reading Challenge Starts May 4th:
All of our students are enrolled, once more, in the Summer Reading Challenge, and teachers are sending home log-in information. Students can begin logging their minutes this week! Have your student take the pledge and turn in their summer goal to the Media Center before school is out, and if they achieve their pledged goal they will earn a prize in the fall! Students entering Kindergarten in the fall can also participate, and parents can register them here:
Media Center Key Dates: The end of the school year is just around the corner and that means it is time to discuss important dates in the Media Center.
Friday, May 8th - All library books are due back to Media Center
Tuesday, May 12th (during the school day) - Cobb County Public Library librarians visit Nickajack to present the summer events and activities that will be happening at the library.
** Any books that are lost must be paid for by the last day of school or the student's report card will be withheld. We can only accept cash.

Young Authors and Illustrators Club
Forms due May 15th for 2015-16 school year
For rising 4th and 5th graders: "The idea to write and illustrate a bestseller can be cultivated long before adulthood!" One of our after school enrichment programs, The Young Authors Club, is now taking applications for the upcoming school year. This is a wonderful program for those rising 4th and 5th graders who enjoy writing, and even illustrating!

PTA Pal Spotlight: Sketchworks Comedy
Sketchworks Comedy Kids Camp 2015
Please welcome our newest PTA Pal,
Prove your kids funny! Boost confidence and sense of accomplishment in a totally fun environment, with amazing instructors. Kids dive into writing, work up their own original material, then perform in front of a live audience. Completely different from any other camp out there, and always a rewarding experience for the young ones. Camp sessions are 2 weeks long, and are for ages 8-12.

Brick the Jack Campaign: Order Now
Orders received by May 7th to be installed May 18th
Order deadline for priority placement is this Thursday, May 7th. Have you seen our new playground bleachers? Wow! Keep an eye on that area - more super cool improvements are coming soon! Order your engraved brick now to help support our future playground and outdoor improvements.
Purchase one brick for $40, two for just $70 or three for only $100. That's just $33.33 each! (Accepted forms of payment: Cash or Check to NES PTA only).
Each brick can have up to 3 lines of text with 16 characters per line, including spaces, see examples in the picture above. Requests can be made to cluster bricks together for longer family messages, BFFs, or for neighborhoods, school groups, ASEP/Pal sponsors, etc. Clusters will be accommodated as best we can. Please staple orders together for groupings.

Plan Ahead: Early Release May 20 & 21
School Day ends early Wed & Thurs
Cobb County Schools will have early release on the last 2 days of school, May 20th and May 21st.
On Wednesday, Nickajack will release at 12:10pm. On Thursday, the 5th Grade Walk of Honor will begin at 12 noon, and release will be immediately following.
ASP begins immediately following release, and is available until 6pm both days.
Thursday, May 21st, is the last day of school.

Join PTA Pal and Clean Nickajack, May 17th
Also, FREE block party!
On May 17th, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, our Silver PTA Pal, Vinings Lake Church, will hold an event they call "Be The Church." On this date, the members of this faith community will forgo their normal church service to go out into the community to work on various projects in an effort to make improvements and help others.
Nickajack is one the projects for this event and Vinings Lake would like to invite members of the Nickajack family to come out and join them as they Clean Up Nickajack! They will be cleaning up the inside of the school alongside our wonderful Head Custodian, Alfred Brown. Please mark your calendars and come out for a good cause!
Neighborhood Block Party! Come join in the fun from 10am-12 noon on May 17th, at Vinings Lake Church, and enjoy FREE kids jumpies, popcorn, car wash, snocones, haircuts and clothes pantry! Located at 75 Cooper Lake Road, Mableton.

GMS Invites NES: The Little Mermaid Jr
Griffin Middle School production May 14-16
Come one, come all - and join us under the sea! The Little Mermaid will soon be part of our world.
Griffin Middle School's presentation of the Disney classic musical "The Little Mermaid Jr." takes place on May 14, 15 and 16 at 7:00 pm in the Griffin Theatre.
The cast of over 40 students from grades 6-8 is hard at work preparing for an amazing show, featuring favorite numbers "Le Poisson" and "Kiss the Girl" that are guaranteed to make you smile. Under the direction of faculty member Sarah Rabun, the students create a magical undersea adventure that's fun for the whole family. Many former Nickajack students are part of this magnificent production! Come see the magic they all have created!
Griffin Middle School is located at 4010 King Springs Road, in Smyrna.
