PTA Pal Spirit Night: Firehouse Subs
Tuesday, April 28th, 5pm to 8pm
Hello Nickajack Parents! Please come join us for the third and final Firehouse Subs Nickajack PTA night of the year on Tuesday April 28th from 5 PM to 8 PM. The Firehouse Subs is located at the intersection of South Cobb Dr. and East-West Connector adjacent to the Publix chopping center.
There will be face painting and Firemen hats for all children. 10% of all sales will be donated to the Nickajack PTA. We look forward to seeing you then! |

The PTA board is having a Volunteer Appreciation Party to celebrate all the wonderful efforts of our parents this year. Without volunteers in our school it would be impossible to do all the great events, activities, fundraisers, and be able to meet the needs of our teachers. So volunteers this party is for you!

Important Media Center Dates & Summer Reading Challenge
The end is near!
The end of the school year is just around the corner and that means it is time to discuss important dates in the Media Center and the summer reading program:
Thursday, April 30th - Last day students may checkout books
Monday, May 4th - Summer Reading program begins
**Friday, May 8th - All library books are due back to Media Center
Tuesday, May 12th (during the school day) - Cobb County Public Library librarians visit Nickajack to present the summer events and activities that will be happening at the library.
** Any books that are lost must be paid for by the last day of school or the student's report card will be withheld. We can only accept cash.
Summer Reading Challenge Starts May 4th: Our schools have signed up to participate in Scholastic's Summer Reading Challenge: Power up & Read! You may recall the NES students participated in this program last year and were wildly successful-ranked 4th highest in the state of Georgia! Look for your child's login information to come home this week. Students may begin logging their minutes on May 4th.

CCSD Honors Students of Military Families
Wear Purple Thursday, April 30th
The Georgia Department of Education will join other states and organizations across the country in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child, which is a time to honor the strength and sacrifices of military children.
Cobb County School District selected Thursday, April 30, as our designated day to wear purple and honor the children of military families. |
Volunteers Needed for Kindergarten Tours
This Thursday, April 30th 9am-10:30
We are in need of 10-15 volunteers to provide tours and answer general questions for the incoming parents that will be attending the Kindergarten Orientation Breakfast & Tour next Thursday morning. An agenda of the tour will be provided to volunteers.

The Kindergarten Orientation Breakfast & Tour is for those families that will be new to Nickajack and have already registered for the upcoming school year or are planning to. The event will begin at 8:15 am in the cafeteria; the cost of breakfast is $1.75 each. Families that are just exploring various schools for their student to attend in the future are invited to join a monthly tour that Nickajack offers, with the next one scheduled for May 1. |
Pajama Jam This Saturday-Buy Your Tickets Now!
May 2nd from 5-8 p.m.
Party in your PJs to support NESF! Buy your tickets today for Pajama Jam on Saturday, 5/2 from 5-8 in the Nickajack gym and cafeteria. Come jam with the DJ, play musical pillows, work it out in the Sports Corner, get some "Who Hair," eat some delicious food and much more! Fun times in cozy clothes for parents and kids! BRING A PILLOW CASE OR T-SHIRT TO DECORATE AND HAVE SIGNED BY YOUR FRIENDS! Great for 5th graders!
Purchase tickets at www.nesfoundation.com - $8 ea in advance, $10 at the door. Don't forget to bring extra cash for food and raffles. Tickets will also be on sale in the Nickajack front lobby every day this week. All students must be accompanied by an adult - no drop-offs. Proceeds support the Nickajack Foundation (NESF).

Field Day Volunteers Needed For Next Week!

Field Day is next week, and we will need many volunteers to make these days a great success for the students! There are many time slots, so please sign up for any AM and PM slots that work best with your schedule.
Thursday, May 7th, for grades K-2: Sign up here.

Donations: If you cannot volunteer your time, we would appreciate donations of 3 oz Dixie cups, freeze and eat popsicles, and bags of ice. These can be dropped off any time leading up to field day. Have you seen our new playground bleachers? Wow! Keep an eye on that area - more super cool improvements are coming soon! Order your engraved brick now to help support our future playground improvements.
DEADLINE: Brick orders placed before Friday, May 1 will get priority installation - before we break for summer! AND... the first 100 brick buyers (before the May 1 deadline), will be automatically entered in a drawing to get a free bonus class brick! Hurry, while there's still time - be one of the first 100! The very first orders are pictured above. Purchase one brick for $40, two for just $70 or three for only $100. That's just $33.33 each! (Accepted forms of payment: Cash or Check only).
Each brick can have up to 3 lines of text with 16 characters per line, including spaces. Examples of the maximum text, including spaces are as follows:

Requests can be made to cluster bricks together for longer family messages, BFFs, or for neighborhoods, school groups, ASEP/Pal sponsors, etc. Clusters will be accommodated as best we can. Please staple orders together for groupings.

GMS Invites NES: The Little Mermaid Jr
Griffin Middle School Production May 14-16
Come one, come all - and join us under the sea! The Little Mermaid will soon be part of our world.
Griffin Middle School's presentation of the Disney classic musical "The Little Mermaid Jr." takes place on May 14, 15 and 16 at 7:00 pm in the Griffin Theatre.
The cast of over 40 students from grades 6-8 is hard at work preparing for an amazing show, featuring favorite numbers "Le Poisson" and "Kiss the Girl" that are guaranteed to make you smile. Under the direction of faculty member Sarah Rabun, the students create a magical undersea adventure that's fun for the whole family. Many former Nickajack students are part of this magnificent production! Come see the magic they all have created!

Join PTA Pal On Community Projects 5/17
Sign Up Now, Includes Clean Up at Nickajack
On May 17th, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, our Silver PTA Pal, Vinings Lake Church, will hold an event they call "Be The Church." On this date, the members of this faith community will forgo their normal church service to go out into the community to work on various projects in an effort to make improvements and help others.
Nickajack is one the projects for this event and Vinings Lake would like to invite members of the Nickajack family to come out and join them as they Clean Up Nickajack! They will be cleaning up the inside of the school alongside our wonderful Head Custodian, Alfred Brown. Please mark your calendars and come out for a good cause!
