NY Times Bestselling Author Visits Nickajack!
4th & 5th Grade Students Are Invited; Permission Slips Due Monday, February 16th
The NY Times Best Selling Author, Sharon Draper, will be visiting on Wednesday, Feb. 18th, from 2:30-4pm in the Media Center. Students wishing to attend must have a signed permission slip. Click here for a blank permission form. Please have your student bring their permission slip to Mrs. Yost by Monday, February 16th.
Our PTA has her newest book, "Stella by Starlight" available for sale for $17. Stop by to see Mrs. Yost in the Media Center if you want to preview the new book, and to pick up a special PTA envelope. Please have your child bring cash or a check made payable to NES PTA if they wish to purchase.
Ms. Draper will have all of her other books for sale as well. You may pre-order her other books by using the pre-order form (download by clicking here), OR you can send in a note with money or check payable to Books N More and they can purchase the books during the visit. All books purchased can be autographed by Ms. Draper.
Ms. Draper will be discussing her new book, the inspiration for her new story, how and why she became a writer and answering any questions that aspiring young writers may have.

Art Contest: Food & Nutrition Services Department
Deadline: Friday, February 13th
 The Food and Nutrition Services Department is holding a nutrition-themed Art Contest to increase awareness of nutrition and wellness topics.
Students of all grades may enter the contest and a grand prize winner will be awarded a great prize and certificate that is signed by the Director of Food and Nutrition Services.
The theme name is American Heart Month. (How important is nutrition to have a healthy heart? What foods are good and not good for a healthy heart).
Art Contest Rules:
1. Theme name is included in the artwork
2. Art work must be submitted on a 8.5X11" paper.
3. Students name, grade, school, and teacher (if appropriate) must be included on the back of the artwork
4. Turn in your art work to the Cafeteria Manager who will send in the top entries from your school.
Entries must be turned in by or before 2-13-15 |

Annual Relay for Life Talent Show March 26th
Permission Slips for Auditions Due Monday & Tuesday, February 16-17, 7:15am-7:45am
Does your student have a talent? Acting, poetry, dance, songs, magic acts, comedy, playing an instrument? Students that would like to participate in this year's Talent Show will need to turn in a completed permission slip on Monday or Tuesday morning in the lobby between 7:15-7:45 AM, February 16th or 17th, along with a $1 donation from each individual who is auditioning.
Auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday, February 23rd and 24th. Rehearsals are critical to the success of the show, and are scheduled in March. Flyers went home last week, or click here for a copy of the flyer, which includes guidelines, permission slip, and additional details.
Please plan to attend this wonderful Relay for Life fundraising event on March 26th at 6:30pm.

Georgia Schools' Parent Survey
Your feedback is needed!
The Georgia Department of Education is asking parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey. All parents are encouraged to participate in the survey because the data will be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The survey window is open through Friday, March 27, 2015. Great pictures needed! We always need classroom candids and great school event photos. Currently, our new yearbook site is being set up for direct uploading capabilities (NOTE: we are NOT using RePlayit anymore). Keep a look out for new uploading instructions in upcoming issues of The Beat and on the PTA Website. Until then, photos can be emailed to the Yearbook editor at nes2014yearbook@gmail.com.
