Outstanding Parent Volunteers
Seeking Nominations, Submit by Friday

Do you know a fellow parent volunteer who goes above and beyond for Nickajack? Please consider nominating them to be recognized at our 2nd Character Assembly in front of their child(ren).  This is a great way to show our appreciation for our wonderful volunteers and for their children to be proud of their parents/guardians.  You all may know this, but just in case....

Research shows that students with involved parents are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores
  • Be promoted, pass their classes
  • Attend school regularly
  • Have better social skills
  • Show improved behavior
  • Graduate & attend post-secondary education
So not only do we want to show our appreciation, but we want their children to know that their parent is involved with their education.  Many of our volunteers do "behind the scene" tasks which their child may not know about.

If you have someone in mind, please submit the parent's name, with a short paragraph describing what the nominee does to make them an outstanding as a volunteer.   If you know the student of the parent, please let us know that too as well as the student's grade/teacher. We also need contact information for the parent so that they can be notified in time enough to accommodate the assemblies in their schedules.

Please email your submissions  to PTA Volunteer Chair,

Portia Carter, at pecarter143@gmail.com by Friday, January 23, 2015 so that we can be prepared for the assemblies to be held on: February, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 2015.

Thanks so much for taking the time to recognize those parents who continue to go above and beyond what is expected.

Georgia Schools' Parent Survey
Your feedback is needed!

All parents are encouraged to participate in The Georgia Parent Survey.  The data will be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating.  School climate refers to the quality and character of school life as it relates to norms and values, interpersonal relations and social interactions, and the organizational processes and structures.  School climate sets the tone for all the learning and teaching done in the school environment and it is predictive of students' ability to learn and develop in healthy ways.

The online survey consists of 24 questions.

Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Data results from The Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online

Save It Forward Food Drive  Continues!
Classroom Challenge: Through Thursday, Jan. 22nd

This year Nickajack Elementary is partnering with Alive Ministries, Inc. to help meet the needs of students & their families right here in Cobb County.

We have asked each child to assist their homeroom in collecting 100 cans or boxes of food by bringing in 1 can or box of food each week from now until the 100th day of school (January 22nd).

On Thursday,  the 100th day of school, we will bring together all the food that each homeroom has collected so they can see the difference that they have made.  It will give the students a great sense of accomplishment! Click here for the list of ideal donations. Thank you in advance for your support!
