Help a Child Smile - Mobile Dental Program
Tuesday, November 18th

The Help A Child Smile dental program has partnered with Nickajack to offer full service in-school dental care.  The program includes a complete exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, sealants, and cavity treatment when needed.

The dental van will be onsite at NES on Tuesday, November 18th. Completed forms had to be turned in today in order to be seen by the mobile program on the 18th.  However, forms are always accepted and the dental van will have additional future dates for those that miss November 18th.

For additional information and to download a form please visit the Help A Child Smile website by clicking here.

Forms may also be picked up from Nurse Tiffany Heglund (tiffany.heglund@cobbk12.org) at NES, who can also answer additional questions.
Important Change of Transportation Policy
Changes no longer accepted via telephone

Nickajack wants to make sure your student is picked up or taken home from school in the afternoon in the most safe and orderly way possible. Parents are asked to make all transportation arrangements clear before your student leaves for school in the morning. Parents may place a notice of change in the student's folder, or write in their agendas prior to the start of school.

If a transportation change is necessary after the start of the school day, the changes must be made in writing and submitted to office personnel before 1:30 pm

You may also fax the change to 678-842-5832 but please call to verify that it is received by office personnel.

1. All written changes must include the student name(s), teacher's name(s), dates the change is effective, & the new mode of transportation.

2. Parent contact information and signature is required.

The Change Form is located on the NES home page menu, or click here.

Please do not send dismissal messages via email to the teachers.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

PTA Scholastic Book Fair was a Huge Success
Thank you for Supporting the Book Fair!

Thank you to our fabulous volunteers and everyone for supporting the book fair!

Book Fair Sales were at an all time high! Sales were in excess of $16,000 and the PTA will earn 50% in Scholastic Dollars, or 25% in cash, (or a combination of both), which will all be used to support literacy and curriculum at Nickajack.    We could not have achieved this without everyone's support!  Thank you!

Shop On Line!  You can still  shop on-line until November 20th, and your order will be delivered to your student at school the first week of December. Click here for on-line shopping.

The PTA Book Fair will be back in late February/ early March, just in time for Read Across America!  Stay tuned!
Local Author Visits Nickajack
Order novels by November 21st

Jenny L. Cote visited Nickajack Elementary School on Monday, Oct. 27th and presented her Creative Writing Workshop to all of the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.  The students were all very excited about learning how to improve their writing skills.   The students were also very excited about purchasing her novels.   Students and parents can see the books on display in the Media Center. Contact Faye Yost for any questions.

Please click here for the order form to purchase any of her novels through the PTA, which will then be autographed by Ms. Cote and "pawtographed" by Max & Liz, who were the inspiration for her writing.  Books purchased through this order form will be shipped to the school.

Please turn in order forms and checks made payable to the NES PTA to the black box in an orange PTA envelope by November 21stMs. Cote will also make a donation back to the PTA for every book purchased.
Reading and Recycling
A Winning Combination

Join us as we continue to promote recycling AND reading at Nickajack!
There are three ways you can join in:

Recycle! Bring your recycling to school.  PTA earns money on aluminum cans and magazines and newspaper. Receptacles are located out by the driveway to the bus lot. Your Media Center earns money for any empty printer ink cartridges. Bring them to Mrs. Yost.  The School collects empty Elmer's Glue Sticks, Sharpie and Crayola Markers. Receptacles are inside the school outside the Art Classroom.

Donate books! Donate any gently used books from your students's collection to the book drive to support Giving a Hand, Inc. and the NES Media Center.  Bring donations to Mrs. Yost through Nov. 21st. Books will be divided between the NES Media Center and Giving a Hand, Inc. based on appropriateness of the books.  Giving a Hand, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help other non-profit public schools, churches, and those living in poverty to continue to help their constituency.  Find out more at www.givingahandinc.org.

Read!  Read a minimum of five books about waste reduction/recycling, log them, and write one fun fact about each book on the attached reading journal. See Mrs. Yost for any books that we have in the Media Center.  Instructions are also included for you to turn in your reading journal by Tuesday, Nov. 25th to be eligible for one of six randomly drawn $50 gift cards from Barnes and Noble out of all participating schools.  Click here for the reading journal.
