Nickajack 's Recovery Plan
"A Message from Your Principal"
Dear Parents/Guardians: As you are aware, due to extreme cold, ice and/or snow, all Cobb County schools were closed a total of six days: January 7, 29, 30 and 31, and February 11 and 12. The Georgia Department of Education announced that school systems are not required to make up the missed days in late January and February because the inclement weather events were declared states of emergency. The Cobb County School District trusts that local schools will do their best due diligence to make up for any lost instructional time. Nickajack's plan to maximize instruction includes the following: - Each class will decrease recess by 5 minutes to give students additional instructional time.
- Extended Day Tutoring will be extended for an additional three weeks for targeted students in grades 3 - 5.
- We will postpone classroom "Book Buddies" peer learning for additional teacher directed instructional time.
- EIP teachers will assist targeted students with the First in Math program before the instructional day begins.
- OAS (Online Assessment System) homework will be provided to help students meet and exceed state standards.
- The Computer Lab Instructor will dedicate part of her lab time to provide additional OAS support to all students.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher should you have specific areas of concern or questions about your child's academic progress and achievement. I can assure you that our teachers will continue to utilize up-to-date assessment data and their own observations to make teaching decisions that will guide instruction. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that our students experience success in the classroom and on the upcoming CRCT. Nickajack teachers will plan collaboratively in order to adjust their instruction to make up for the lost instructional days. We will strive to ensure maximum use of instructional time for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Sincerely, Beverly P. Lloyd |
AdvanceED/SACS Survey - Your Input Please
Parents: Please complete by March 21st
Every year, the district sends out a survey to gather information to assist with our school improvement process. All parents are invited to participate via a paper survey. You should have received a letter from Dr. Hinojosa, a survey and an answer sheet in your child's red Tuesday Folder. Please contact the school(678-842-5814) if you did not receive a survey. Your input will provide useful insights into the performance of your student's school. Responses will be used to assist with planning for improvement and in recognizing areas of strength. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and return it back to school by March 21st. Please use only a #2 pencil. Your responses will be anonymous. AdvancED/SACS is the association for accreditation of schools and colleges. The deadline for participating in the survey is March 21. |
Georgia Health Student Survey II
Attention: Parents of 4th & 5th Grade Students
The Georgia Department of Education is now including 4th and 5th grade students in the Georgia Health Student Survey II. The survey is designed to identify critical areas of need for our Safe and Drug-Free Schools. At least 75% of 4th and 5th grade students must participate in the survey for NES to be eligible for the School Climate Star Rating. Students will take the survey at school. A letter from Amy Krause, Chief Academic Officer, was sent home for parent signatures if there is an objection to their children participating in the survey. There is no need to take respond if your child can participate in the survey. |
