Nickajack's Media Center Needs Your Help!
Make Your Tax Deductible Donation by Jan. 17th!

So far donors have helped  raise $970!  Help us reach our goal!

The media center plays a critical role in increasing literacy among students, assisting teachers with their curriculum, and contributing to your child's lifelong joy of reading.

There simply is not enough money in the budget to fill our library with the books our students and teachers need for reading and research.  A recent collection analysis indicates that 70% of our non-fiction collection is out dated, over 4,000 books!  We need to purchase updated and relevant non-fiction books to support the Common Core curriculum and our student's interest in non-fiction topics.

For every $20 donated we will be able to purchase a new book and 100% of your tax deductible donation goes to the Nickajack Media Center!

Click to donate: http://www.funds4books.com/fundraiser.aspx?pincode=ece9

Donations ($10 minimum) will be accepted until January 17, 2014.

With your help, we can purchase the library materials our children need!

We greatly appreciate your support!

Chess 2 Children  Registration Open!
Sessions: Jan. 22nd - Apr. 30th and Jan. 24th - May 9

chess

The Nickajack Chess Club had a wonderful 10 week Fall session!  We had close to 25 players participate in the Chess2Children Holiday Chess Tournament at Mableton Elementary!

In the Spring, our Beginners will move into the Intermediate instruction, while our Intermediate class will move more into Advanced lessons/puzzles and will prepare for team tournaments, which happen this Winter/Spring. Our Advanced children will continue building on the strategy we have been focused on and look forward to expanding their learnings in chess!  In addition, we encourage first timer's to join our club, as we plan to have a Beginner group with them on Wednesday's, as well.

Sign up for the Spring session began Jan. 2. You can register from home at www.chess2children.com. In addition, for returning parents, if your child was enrolled in the Fall, all you have to do is send an email to info@chess2children.com that your child will be continuing for the Spring, and we will have them on the roster!

We will have a 14 week/class schedule in the Spring.  Our Wednesday classes (if you are new or if you were Wednesday in the Fall, this is your day) will begin Jan. 22  Our Friday classes (same from the Fall) will begin Jan. 24.   The last classes will be Apr. 30 for Wednesday (no class 4/2) and May 9 for Friday (no classes 2/14 and 4/4).   The cost of this 14-week session is $165.

As in the Fall, this session will fill up quickly, so please do not wait in registering for the Spring session. Based on the numbers of new and returning students, classes may be added.  We would love to continue building on what we have started with your children!
