Nominees:

Chuck Young

Chuck Young is married to Kathy Young and is father to two Nickajack Elementary students (Audrey - 4th grade and Molly - 1st grade). He currently chairs the Playground Committee of the Nickajack PTA. In his role as committee chair, Chuck lead visioning efforts and implemented a $25,000 renovation effort for the K-2 playground that included new play surfaces, new grass, new basketball goal, fence relocation and resolution to the flooding and erosion issues that had plagued the playground area for years.  Chuck was able to leverage limited PTA resources into a large in-kind contribution of services from Cobb County Schools in order to complete the $25,000 project. For his efforts, Chuck was awarded the Mayor's Education Award by the City of Smyrna.

When he is not working on Nickajack activities, Chuck is Vice President of Development for Prestwick Companies. In his role, Chuck is responsible for identifying multifamily development opportunities throughout the Southeast.  His responsibilities include planning, development, funding procurement and project management.

Chuck earned his Bachelor's degree in Professional Studies (Architecture) from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1998 and his Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from Georgia Tech in 2000. He has served as a board member on Georgia Tech's College of Architecture alumni committee and is a graduate of Urban Land Institute's Center for Leadership Program.

Should he be elected to School Council, Chuck hopes to utilize his experiences as committee chair and his real estate development expertise to help further improve Nickajack Elementary.

Eric Rosen

Eric Rosen has been administering the New Markets Tax Credit program at SunTrust Community Capital since 2002.  He works with a team that utilizes federal tax credit programs to generate direct and fund equity investments and debt financing in community development projects throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.  Mr. Rosen has been with SunTrust since 1999, and before joining SunTrust Community Capital he gained experience in commercial banking.  He is active in his community, currently serving as a Governor-appointee to the Georgia's Race to the Top Innovation Fund Advisory Board and as a member of the Nickajack Elementary School PTA.  He has also served as a Director for the Atlanta Community ToolBank and a Governor-appointee to the Georgia Charter Schools Commission.  Mr. Rosen received his Bachelors degree from Florida State University in 1998.  He lives in Smyrna, GA with his wife, Heidi, and two daughters, Addison (6 years old) and Annabelle (3 years old).  Addison is a proud first-grader at Nickajack in Mrs. Hunt's class.

Ballots & Ballot Box are located in the Front Office.

A Note from the Media Center

The Nickajack Media Center proudly presents........

The Cobb Digital Library (CDL) provides Cobb County School District (CCSD) students with access to high-quality information resources that are specifically selected for their grade level. Within the CDL, patrons will find a number of online research databases and the Nickajack ebook collection.

The CDL can be accessed at school and at home 24 hours a day, seven days a week using a computer or mobile device, such as an iPad or Kindle (download the free app for your device). Each student has an individual login that will allow them to checkout ebooks (up to 4) and access some of our most popular databases, such as BrainPop, PebbleGo and Tumblebooks, without the need for separate log in!

Over the last few weeks our Media Specialist, Mrs. Jeter, has been introducing students in grades 3-5 to the features of the CDL:  how to log in, checkout ebooks, and resources to support their research needs. Our students can also access Destiny (our entire Media Center book collection) through the CDL.
