Scholastic Summer Reading
Action Required Please by Wed. 9/18

Many of our Nickajack students participated in the Scholastic Summer Challenge that ended September 6th, and the PTA Literacy Committee will be recognizing our top readers from each class with a gift certificate to our fall book fair. We had great participation, and our students logged a total of 82,142 minutes, and finished in 6th place in the state of Georgia!
Action Required: All students that participated in the Challenge will need to submit a copy of their total minutes by Wednesday, September 18th.
How to submit: Students or parents can either print out a copy of their total minutes from www.scholastic.com/summer and turn this into the student's homeroom teacher OR e-mail a copy of this screen shot directly to kim.trumble1@gmail.com, by September 18th.
Please write the student name, grade, and homeroom teacher on the print out or include in the e-mail. The screen shot should appear much like the sample at the bottom of this e-mail.
Due to privacy rules, Scholastic can only provide us with some of the results, but we want to make sure we don't miss anyone's efforts so please submit your student's total minutes today! Top readers will be announced after September 18th.
Thank you for encouraging your
student to read and to log their minutes!

Vote for Nickajack Elementary School Now
Give with Target
Vote now until Sept. 21st
This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote.
Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more.
So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Nickajack Elementary School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million. Please share with all your friends on Facebook and Twitter too!

Artwork will be judged with special emphasis on how the art represents this year's theme: Believe, Dream, Inspire. For more information, student entry forms, and rules for participation, visit http://georgiapta.org/leadership-reflections.html or contact Renee LaPrade.

Accelerated Reader Program
Funding by the Nickjack Foundation
Thanks to our wonderful Foundation, every student can participate in a reading incentive program called Accelerated Reader. This computer-based program gives students the opportunity to take a comprehension quiz on a book they have read and earn points. At the end of the year, students will be able to "cash in" their points for books and prizes at the PTA AR Store. In addition to this, many classes will be holding AR celebrations at the end of each nine weeks for students who have met their AR goal. This varies by classroom. Please check with your child's teacher to see what they are doing and if you can assist. AR is an excellent way to get involved in your child's classroom. Many books from our school library, as well as from public libraries or home, are Accelerated Reader books. You can use the website www.arbookfind.com to check if a book is listed in our AR system and what reading level the book is on. Our hope is that this is a motivation tool for your child and encourages quality reading and comprehension. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about AR. Thank you to everyone who has supported the NES Foundation, which in turn pays for this wonderful program! Should you have any questions regarding AR, please check with your student's teacher or email the Media Center Paraprofessional, |
