Nickajack Kindness & Compassion Club
Registration Now Open!
For the past four years, we have offered students the opportunity to participate in the Rachel's Challenge Kindness and Compassion Club after school. Students in our KC Club represent leaders in the effort to promote kindness and compassion on the school campus. They learn about the importance of kindness and giving and about numerous ways that they can make a difference in the lives of others. KC Club students will participate in school, community, and even global service projects. For example, some of our past service projects have included the following: making lunch bags for the homeless, participating in the Water Project to raise funds to build wells in Africa, creating appreciation gifts for Nickajack teachers and staff, making worry dolls for the students at Sandy Hook Elementary, collecting donations for a local animal shelter, and sorting and packing food items for needy families in Cobb County school district. If your child is interested in participating in the KC Club this school year, please email your child's name and grade to Katy Weihe to request a permission form. Enrollment is first come, first serve until we reach maximum capacity due to space issues. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays after school from 2:30 - 3:30 pm in one of the portable classrooms. We will have two groups, K - 2nd and 3rd - 5th, meeting on alternating weeks throughout the school year. As indicated on the permission form, students will need both a parent's and a teacher's signature to participate in KC Club. If you have any questions or would like further information, please email

Vote for Nickajack Elementary School Now
Give with Target
This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote.
Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more.
So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Nickajack Elementary School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million. Please share with all your friends on Facebook and Twitter too!

Fall Garden Club
Who is Ready to Dig in The Dirt?
This year's theme at Nickajack is "Planting with a Purpose". With the help of Smyrna Education Foundation, IBM Community Grants, Captain Planet, and Home Depot, we have added a greenhouse to the Nickajack campus! Nickajack has been a Green School for many years. We feel it is time to show students what it means to really be "green" and how it can (and will) impact our world as we get closer to the 21st Century. This project is meant to continue for years, showing students how the work they put in today, will impact those following in their green footsteps. Students who display creativity, imagination, interest in Science, and motivation are all welcome to apply to join Garden Club. We are also asking for students to provide a Teacher Recommendation Form. This is a teacher led club, all we ask is that parents provide snack and/or water for the group at least once during the semester (we have hungry and thirsty scientists by 2:30! ) If you have not seen our gardens, PLEASE do so. We have been very fortunate to have teachers and parents who worked hard all summer to keep our garden growing. The pumpkin patch was planted by Captain Planet and Mrs. Heflin in July. You will see that they are growing quickly are ready for students to explore this fall. We plan to start the Thursday after Labor Day and alternate Thursdays. Once we have an idea of enrollment, we will provide a monthly calendar. Due to high interest in the club, we can only accept applications on a first come first served basis. Applications and Teacher Recommendation Forms can be downloaded from
Completed applications (with parent signature) can be placed in the mailbox outside the Science Lab. Please email Deryl.Heflin@cobbk12.org with any questions. We are looking forward to another great year! Mrs. Heflin, Mrs. Bassett, Mrs. Maples, and Ms. Lyons |
