New "Buzz In" Door Lock System - Effective Thurs., April 25th

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians,

I am pleased to inform you that the Cobb County School District has added an additional safety feature to the current surveillance system that we have at Nickajack.  Earlier in the school year, high definition cameras were installed inside and outside of our building. These cameras allow us to view activity inside and outside of the building on a continuous basis. The cameras and our Access Control System (electronic/badge entry) work together to form a strong system of security and supervision for our students and staff.

The new feature that took effect on Thursday, April 25, is a "buzz-in" door lock system at the main entrance of our school. This system will keep the main entrance door locked at all times except from 7:15 AM - 8:10 AM (student arrival time) each school day. Part of the system includes a box outside of the main entrance door that is equipped with a door bell and a camera. Staff members working in the front office will receive an alert when a visitor arrives and rings the bell. The office staff will be able to see, via a video camera, and communicate by intercom with visitors before allowing them into the school. Visitors will be required to have ID available when gaining access to the school. If you are picking up a car rider, you will need to have your car ID number for verification. Once visitors are "buzzed in," they are required to report to the main office in order to sign-in and follow the usual school policies and procedures.

During the first few days of implementation of the buzz-in system, we expect that we will need to make some adjustments. We welcome your feedback to help us assess how the system is working.

In order to ensure efficient operation of the front office, please review the times below. Your cooperation in following these times will minimize disruption to the instructional program and prevent mistakes that can happen during the dismissal process.

7:15 AM - Doors open

7:50 AM - Students are expected to be in class at 7:50 in order to avoid being marked tardy

1:30 PM - We will not allow any student checkouts after 1:30 PM

2:10 PM - Announcements and dismissal begin

3:30 PM - Front office is closed

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we strive to ensure the safety of our students.
