The NES Media Center is Going Digital!
Check Out Our eBooks!

We've added a new section to our Media Center - ebooks (electronic books).

Why ebooks?

  • They support the Common Core standards, (more informational text, text complexity, different format, student collaboration, etc.).
  • Many ebooks can be accessed by multiple users at the same time (entire grade level, for example), while others are single use only. No need to worry that the book you want is not in.
  • Books are never overdue, (woohoo!!), the system will automatically return the book when it is due.
  • Students love doing anything on an electronic device - so let them READ, here and at home - maybe a few more will discover they actually like to read.
  • We need to have both print and electronic resources available through the Media Center. However, it is unlikely that we will purchase the same title in multiple formats - books are expensive in every format.
  • It is the 21st century, we are in a digital age, and we need to catch this train and keep it moving.

Now you and/or your child may sit at your own computer to read and/or checkout an ebook - no need to contact the Media Center!

Who can access our ebooks?

Through Destiny, anyone can search our catalog, but you must have a Destiny account to check out an ebook.  From home, you access Destiny via the Cobb Virtual Library.  If you do not have a Destiny account, email our Media Specialist, Lemieda Jeter, or Media Center Paraprofessional, Faye Yost,  further instructions on how to access Cobb Virtual Library and set up a Destiny Account.

How do you get started?

Open Destiny, type ebooks in the search box, peruse the list to see our titles.  Our ebooks will sit on our cyberspace book shelf called FolletShelf.

Happy eReading Everyone!

Read the Most from Coast to Coast

Reading

On March 1st, Read Across America Day, Nickajack students joined other students across the country in an attempt to break the record for the most AR quizzes taken in one day.

While our students did not break last year's record (960) we still took a lot of quizzes:  720!  And we helped the country break the record overall!  Last year's record was 3, 581,992.

The new record is 4,409,622!

Our top three classes were:

1st place = Ms. Nelson's 4th grade class took 63 quizzes

2nd place = Ms. Heflin's  1st grade class took 62 quizzes

3rd place = Ms. Joiner's 4th grade class took 52 quizzes

We had a tie for the the student that took the most quizzes in one day. Congratulations to our winners:

Savannah Obert from Ms. McDonald's 2nd grade

Elliot Reardon from Mr. Jamison's 5th grade

Both Savannah and Elliot took and successfully passed 11 quizzes!

Great job everyone!
