Is there a phone call you need to make?
by The Rt. Rev. Steven A. Miller

Dear Friends in Christ,

After the shootings at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, I made a call to then Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori and said that we as bishops of the Episcopal Church were in a unique place to lead the Church and the world in addressing the issue of Gun Violence. She suggested I call Mark Beckwith, the Bishop of Newark, who was also interested in this issue.

From this phone call Bishops United Against Gun Violence was born. Last year on the Sunday of General Convention  60 bishops led over 1500 Episcopalians in a walk "Claiming Common ground Against Gun Violence." We heard powerful witness from victims, former law enforcement officers, and our Presiding Bishop-elect Michael Curry. Together we are building a core of people committed to doing all we can to end this scourge through the passage of reasonable and sane gun laws that protect the rights of gun owners while restricting access to those who should not.
2015 Bishops Against Gun Violence march

This year Bishops United is participating in the Wear Orange Movement.  You can learn more about it by reading this article by Bishop Ian Douglas one of the co-founders of Bishops United.

Please join me in wearing orange tomorrow. God wants to use each of us to build a better world. Is there a phone call you need to make to invite someone to join us in our witness?

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: a formation program for Children
For several years, St. Bartholomew's has offered the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as its Sunday School program.  In this article by Shelly Buchan, Director of St. Bartholomew's program,  the program and its goals are explained.
As baptized Christians, God invites us from the time we are very young and throughout our lives to continue to learn about Jesus and the Christian faith. One way of spiritual formation for children is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). CGS, a Montessori-based religious formation program, is dedicated to life-long learning around the celebration of the Word and sacraments, with spiritual formation for the child as its focus, helping them know God personally through Scripture, prayer and Holy Eucharist.
We believe God knows his creation intimately and personally, long before his creation knows and acknowledges him. Since a relationship between God and his creation exists, we begin to know and hear God's voice from a very young age. For this reason, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has a 'first step', inviting the children at the age of three into the atrium (classroom).  continue reading

Prayers for Parishes

The  diocesan Commission on Mission and Development has prepared a cycle of prayers for the congregations of the Diocese of Milwaukee.

June 05, 2016 - St. Boniface, Mequon
Gracious Father, we thank you for the congregation of St. Boniface, Mequon, and for building them into a community that knows and cares about each other.  Help them to continue to grow in Christ as they live for the people beyond their walls, share the hospitality of their community, and feed the lives of those who come.  Grant them the power of your Spirit to accomplish that which can only be done with your help: to increase their membership as a Body of Christ that lives, grows, and is renewed by God, through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
