Please keep Haiti Mission Trip members in your prayers
Haiti Mission Trip members prepare for departure
Please pray for Dr. Jennifer Henery and her students at St. John's NW Military Academy in Delafield, as they take part in their first Global Service Learning Course.  Partnering with the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee's Haiti Project, Dr. Henery and John Meacham of the Haiti Project Steering Committee are spending a week at St. Marc's School in Haiti, engaging in cultural and language exchange and working alongside community members on water purification and sanitation efforts.  Three female students, including Dr. Henery's daughter, Maggie, are participating as well.  The report from Sunday included: worship with the community with St. Marc's parish and basketball and soccer games with the children in Jeannette.  They left for Haiti on Friday, March 11 and return on Monday, March 21. Please keep them in your prayers this week.

AROUND THE DIOCESE

Making Sense of the American Spiritual Landscape
April 9th at St. Paul's, Milwaukee
The Rev. Dr.
Frederick W. Schmidt, Jr.
.
On Saturday, April 9, 2016, St. Paul's Church, 914 East Knapp Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will sponsor a workshop that will explore the status of spirituality in America today. The event will run from 9AM to 3PM and will include lunch for $10. There is no registration fee. If you are a spiritual leader or you are simply trying to make sense of your own faith in conversation with those around you, this workshop is designed for you.
The presenter, The Reverend Dr. Frederick W. Schmidt, Jr. will discuss how the high-tide denominationalism of the fifties and sixties quickly gave way to a new American spiritual landscape at the end of the twentieth century. Under consideration will be:
  • What are the dominant trends on that landscape?
  • What do they tell us about the church's future?
  • How do we orient ourselves spiritually in this new world order?

Lent takes on a new meaning . . .
Being a "fit" Christian has taken on a whole new meaning for some congregations this Lent.
At St. George's Church in Laguna Hills, California,  "Bod4God", and "Holy Hikes" have transformed Lent from "a sit and wait time" to a more purposeful season for parishioner Sherry Wright.
Pairing the physical activity of the weight-loss programs with their spiritual components has shifted the season into "a growing time" and inspired the realization "that I want to be as healthy and best I can be, to better do God's service," Wright said.
St. George's adopted "Bod4God," a program created by Steve Reynolds, a Baptist pastor who before losing 130 pounds had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
"Christians are one of the most overweight groups in the country," said Reynolds. Since he developed Bod4God, a 12-week series of classes offering weight loss, physical, nutritional and spiritual advice, thousands have lost weight and gained a more holistic understanding of dedicating their physical selves to God.

Did your parish engage in a special activity / ministry during this Lenten season?  Please consider sharing it with other parishes via E-NEWS.  Send articles to info@diomil.org .

Good Friday Offering supports Church in Jerusalem & Middle East
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry says, "Our journey during Lent always leads us to Jerusalem . . . Our journey as Episcopalians also includes remembering our sister and brother Christians in the Holy Land who maintain the faith which we hold so dear.  The political, social and spiritual challenges are well known.
Their witness is an inspiration . . . every congregation is encouraged by the Presiding Bishop to participate in the Good Friday Offering.  This tradition is decades old and is an important statement of our solidarity with the members of the four dioceses of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. We have a Gospel imperative to be sure they know they are not forgotten . . . "

Lenten Worship at St. James Church of Milwaukee
St. James of Milwaukee will emphasis our personal relation with Jesus this Lenten season. The preaching themes on the Sundays in Lent will stress the to opening our hearts and hands to God and our service to the neighbor. The preaching themes will be " The Heart believing in Love, The Heart of Transformation, The Heart that Waits, The Heart of Forgiveness and The Heart of Costly Love." These themes will be based on the Gospel Lessons with practical applications.
On the 1st Sunday of Lent there will be an Intergenerational Event for adults and children, which is designed to be interactive. The book " Rediscovering Jesus" by Matthew Kelly will be given to all families in the Parish. This book sets forth these questions: Who am I? Who is God? What am I here for? What matters most? What are my unique talents and abilities? What will my contribution be? We will discover the answers to these questions most completely by encountering Jesus.
