Barbara Klauber, Editor
Thank you to Mission & Development team for a great Leadership Day I
A heartfelt thank you to the Mission and Development team that planned  Leadership Day I which was held at Nashotah House seminary on February 27th. Over 160 people (clergy and laity) attended Leadership Day I.  The event attracted teams from parishes throughout the Diocese of Milwaukee, as well as from the Diocese of Fond du Lac.  Featured speaker was The Rev. Dwight Zscheile, well-known author on the theme of helping the Church cultivate Christian community with new populations and generations as we move into the 21st Century.  His message resounded with those in attendance, many of whom plan to attend Leadership Day II on April 16, 2016.
Pictured with guest speaker Dwight Zscheile (center) is the Mission and Development team that planned the hugely sucessful February 27th Leadership Day, held at Nashotah House seminary. L-R are Matthew Buterbaugh, Bob Lambert, Peggy Bean, Dwight Zscheile, Miranda Hassett, Henry Peters, Joel Prather and Liz Riedel  is the Mission and Development team.

The Impact of  Leadership Day I
Days after attending Leadership Day I, The Rev. Jason Lavann (St. John the Divine, Burlington) sent this message to Peggy Bean, Canon for Parishes, sharing his impressions of how the Leadership Day with Dwight Zscheile impacted not only those who attended but those who heard from the attendees.

I just wanted to thank you again for helping to put together such a fruitful day on Saturday. On Sunday, February 28th  we held a conversation in between services about how we are discerning who God is calling us to be and how we help each other discern the gifts God has given each other. We used a lot of the material from Saturday, such as talking about small experiential steps we can take and learn from. We talked about not being afraid to fail, and had tons of energy and great conversation. Folks not only came up with some wonderful small experiments, but are willing to carry them out!

I will keep you posted, but there were 16 of us gathered, tons of energy, and I left so inspired by the folks here and what God is doing through them!

Good Friday Offering supports Church in Jerusalem & Middle East
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry says, "Our journey during Lent always leads us to Jerusalem . . . Our journey as Episcopalians also includes remembering our sister and brother Christians in the Holy Land who maintain the faith which we hold so dear.  The political, social and spiritual challenges are well known.
Their witness is an inspiration . . . every congregation is encouraged by the Presiding Bishop to participate in the Good Friday Offering.  This tradition is decades old and is an important statement of our solidarity with the members of the four dioceses of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. We have a Gospel imperative to be sure they know they are not forgotten . . . "

Prof. Magerus brings DeKoven Center's archives to live
The following is excerpted from an article by Mark Feldmann that appeared in the March 6, 2016 edition of the Racine Journal Times
John Magerus is an unabashed, unashamed, unapologetic archivist.
He loves delving into dusty, deteriorating documents and determining their historical significance. He could spend hours in small, dimly-lit rooms among antiques, yellowed letters and bulky leather tomes.
"I'm a history junkie," said the retired college professor, administrator and writer. "You can learn an awful lot about who we are by studying who we were."
New ministry at St. Dunstan's, Madison
by The Rev. Miranda Hassett
St Dunstan's Episcopal Church, on the west side of Madison, has had a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship. Back when the church was founded in the late 1950s, it was established on a 7-acre lot which, under the leadership of the first rector, became a showcase for conifers from all over the world. Over the decades, the trees, plants, birds and animals of this place have been part of our identity here, and have called us into awareness of and care for God's beautiful creation. But we haven't consistently had a clear approach or voice on the issue of creation care; it's in danger of being just another value that a church claims, but isn't really sure how to live out.
St. Mary's, Dousman offers its grounds for UW-Extension class on pruning/preparing for Spring
The "hands on" portion of the class took place outside on St. Mary's grounds
The Rev. Scott Leannah, rector of St. Mary's, Dousman, tells how the parish worked with community resources to get some hands on gardening/pruning  training and beautify their grounds, while at the same time sharing the experience and learning with the wider community.
Some time ago, at the urging of my wife, Gina ( a Master Gardener), I invited the UW-Extension to have their spring pruning class here at St. Mary's. Many people came to learn about pruning (including four members of St. Mary's) and then, as part of the class, they all went outside and went to work pruning on our property! Many of our trees, shrubs and bushes got some great spring TLC and our grounds are looking great - it was a great arrangement!
DCDI graduates invited to join community
Graduates of the Diocesan Church Development Institute (DCDI), now there is a community for you. We are currently building it and want to include you! In order to facilitate community, we look forward to connecting with you at a social on April 10, 2016.

St. Francis House 100th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Drazen Dupor, the iconographer, will be on hand to speak about the icon. The celebration continues at St. Dunstan's, with dinner at 6:30 PM. There will be displays from different eras at SFH, a short program, and lots of new and old friends. Ample parking will be available at St. Dunstan's, with a shuttle to and from campus for evening prayer. Tickets are $35. Seating will be limited to 100 people. You can reserve your tickets for the evening at www.stfrancisuw.org

Lenten Worship at St. James Church of Milwaukee
St. James of Milwaukee will emphasis our personal relation with Jesus this Lenten season. The preaching themes on the Sundays in Lent will stress the to opening our hearts and hands to God and our service to the neighbor. The preaching themes will be " The Heart believing in Love, The Heart of Transformation, The Heart that Waits, The Heart of Forgiveness and The Heart of Costly Love." These themes will be based on the Gospel Lessons with practical applications.
On the 1st Sunday of Lent there will be an Intergenerational Event for adults and children, which is designed to be interactive. The book " Rediscovering Jesus" by Matthew Kelly will be given to all families in the Parish. This book sets forth these questions: Who am I? Who is God? What am I here for? What matters most? What are my unique talents and abilities? What will my contribution be? We will discover the answers to these questions most completely by encountering Jesus.
