Saturday, 11 AM, October 3rd, a group of loving pet owners brought their creatures to Church of the Holy Communion in Lake Geneva to be blessed.  In addition to the dogs which were plentiful, also blessed were a pet lizard and two pet rabbits.  Contributions were received for the local animal shelter and treats were provided for all the pets.
Book of Remembrance
The Book of Remembrance
Do you know there is a lovely and simple way to remember those women you have died in the Lord's service from your parish?  We have cards that you can fill out about them (birth, death, how they served in the parish,) that when filled out and returned with $10 are lovingly entered in calligraphic script in our Church Women's Book of Remembrance.  This book was begun in 1876, and has the names of many of our sisters, remembered forever.  The donation goes into a special fund, interest from which each year is dispensed by our bishop to those seminarians from our diocese studying for the ordained ministry.  If you need more information, or cards, please stop by the registration table at Convention.  Or call Meg Haag at 262-538-4455 (St Anskar's, Hartland.)

The Witch's Chorus
Pipescreams - Concert at St. Matthew's, Kenosha on October 25th
Pipescreams - St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 5900 7th Ave., Kenosha, WI
If you've ever wanted to hear some great organ music from an historic four manual E.M. Skinner organ, this is the event for you!  On Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 5:00 p.m., St. Matthew's will be hosting six organists, 3 from Wisconsin (David Bohn, Sheri Masiakowski and Larry Wheelock) and 3 from Illinois (John Mackey, Steven Potter and Kay Sutton) performing organ selections to get you into the autumn/Halloween spirit (pardon the pun).  Along with the organists, Diana Marie Iorio will be performing on the violin and soprano soloist Krystina Andreoli will delight us with her beautiful voice.
Along with the instrumentalists, there will be a Witch's Chorus who will help the audience with a Pumpkin Carol Sing-Along.  Sounds frightfully fun, don't you think?  A "Cookies in the Crypt" reception follows the event.  A free will offering will be appreciated.
One other small point to take note of:  the Green Bay Packers are not playing that Sunday so please come out to enjoy some ghoulishly wonderful music.  For information, you can contact the church office at (262) 654-8642.

Thinking about attending Diocesan Church Development Institute?  Registration is now open!

Our First weekend in Diocesan Church Development Institute is November  7th and 8th.  It is a great opportunity for new leaders to learn skills in assessing their context and parish system.  A key emphasis is in developing skills to gather data, develop a plan, implement said plan and evaluate.  Learning with other parish leaders helps with creativity and gives great support while in the program and after.  We do lead this training and Saturday and Sunday intentionally so lay leaders can attend.  We have heard over the years how difficult it is for people to take Friday off and this change has helped open the door to leaders who would not be able to attend. One of the other benefits we feel is in how we become a worship community. The Book of Common Prayer is not only a resource but a book we do use every weekend - morning and evening.  Join us.  Registration will be closed on Oct. 15th.

Education for Ministry (EfM)
EfM is a distance-learning program for adult Christian formation through theological education and reflection offered by the Beecken Center of the School of Theology at the University of the South, in Sewanee, Tennessee (http://efm.sewanee.edu/ ). Through study, prayer, and reflection, EfM helps participants move toward a new understanding of the fullness of God's kingdom as they better apprehend the connections between their faith and their lives.
Most of our EfM groups meet weekly (Sept-June) in various churches around our diocese. There is also an EfM Online program you can join if you have time constraints. Our Diocesan EfM coordinator is Mr. Bill Stotts,  wmnmex@aol.com . You may email him with updates about your EfM group and facilitator contact, to find a group meeting in your area, or for more information.

Madison Area Julian Gathering - NOVEMBER 11th

Madison-Area Julian Gathering
Wednesday, November 11, 7:15 - 9:00 PM
St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church
6205 University Avenue
Madison, WI 53705

You are welcome to attend our November Julian Gathering to learn why Julian is the 'hottest' saint of our time.  We are living in a crisis-driven era, and it's not so easy to believe that "all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well," as Julian wrote.  How could she have been so positive?
Julian's era was one of turmoil and crisis. Contemporary reports indicate that at least half the population of Norwich died from the Plague; the clergy and undertakers could not keep up with the dead bodies. Meanwhile, disease killed the cattle, and harvests failed. In 1381, when Julian was thirty-nine, people became so desperate they rose up in a revolt, looting the churches and monasteries.
During Julian's lifetime, John Wyclif was also preaching against the corruption in the Church; his translation of the Bible into the common language of English brought down on him papal accusations of heresy. Wyclif and his followers, the Lollards, believed God should be made directly available to ordinary people, without the intercession of the clergy. The clerical hierarchy was so incensed that the Bishop of Norwich received permission from Rome to execute any Lollards he captured. Wyclif's followers were burned alive in a pit less than a mile from Julian's cell.
Meanwhile, the larger world beyond Norfolk and England was also in a state of upheaval. Five years before Julian was born, in 1337, the Hundred Years War between England and France had begun, and it would continue throughout her lifetime. The Great Schism split the Church in 1377, with one pope in France, the other in Rome.
And in the midst of all this, Julian came to believe unshakably that "all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well."

Prayers for Parishes
The  diocesan Commission on Mission and Development has prepared a cycle of prayers for the congregations of the Diocese of Milwaukee.
To view the current installment of the cycle, which runs from July  through November 2015, please click HERE.  This week's prayer appears immediately below.

October 18, 2015 - St. Luke's, Bay View
Loving God, thank you for forming the parish of St Luke's, Bay View, as a prayerful and faithful people of your message.  Thank you for their long and beautiful history of listening to your Word and following your guiding hand, and the blessings they have enjoyed in all the seasons of the life together, both of plenty and of want. They listened faithfully when you told them to tend to the poor and forgotten; they listened when you told them to pray and be patient; they listened when you raised up new leadership among them. Keep them faithful and generous in service, as they share clothing, food, and prayers with the surrounding community. Continue to show them how their church, though only one thread of your great tapestry, remains relevant in an ever changing community and world.  Bless them with the faith to keep listening and keep responding to your voice and your call. Amen.

The Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, compiled by the Order of Julian of Norwich, which includes both Diocese of Milwaukee and Diocese of Newala parishes and ministries, is also posted on the diocesan website, along with the Commission on Mission and Development's "Prayers for the Parishes of the Diocese of Milwaukee".  Parishes are encouraged to make use of both these resources in their weekly prayers and Services.

One more time . . . THANK YOU for forwarding this newsletter to parishioners and others who may be  interested and for sending YOUR news/events / photos to info@diomil.org !

See you next week!

Sincerely,

Barb
