Bringing a blessing into the community . . .
The Rev. John Allen is well known as a dog-lover . . . his personal choice in dogs runs to great big ones -- Irish Wolfhounds, to be exact! When he was invited to ta ke part in Milwaukee Pug Fest on May 17, though, he found that he likes these little guys with the black mugs pretty well, too!! A perfect example of taking "church" into the community, Fr. John Allen officiated at the festival's "Blessing of the Pugs and friends" as seen in the above photos. Pug Fest, which has been held annually for over ten years, takes place at the Milwaukee Count Indoor Sports Complex in Franklin and it attracts participants and visitors from several states in the Midwest -- and beyond!

Add your prayer to the Prayers of the People at General Convention . . .
At the request of the General Convention Liturgy Team, the Society of Saint John the Evangelist is offering a social media initiative called
#prayersof that invites everyone from around the globe to add prayers in words and images to The Prayers of the People at the Episcopal Church's 78th General Convention. Each day, a number of submitted prayers will be incorporated into the spoken liturgy of that day's General Convention worship.
Adding a prayer is incredibly simple. By using the hashtag #prayersof on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, anyone posting a public prayer in words or images will have that prayer included in the prayer website at General Convention - prayersofthepeople.org .
#prayersof
is based on the seven classic forms of prayers identified in the Book of Common Prayer: thanksgiving, praise, intercession, adoration, oblation, penitence and petition. Themes of life and celebration have been added as there are nine days of General Convention Eucharists. prayersofthepeople.org contains resources to assist parishes, clergy and communicators in spreading the word.

Follow the work of the Diocese of Milwaukee's deputation to the 2015 General Convention
The General Convention is the governing body of the Episcopal Church. The Convention is a bicameral legislature that includes the House of Deputies, which has more than 800 members, and the House of Bishops, which is comprised of nearly 300 active and retired bishops. The Convention meets every three years and has the authority to amend the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church; adopt the budget for the church for the next three years; authorize liturgical texts and amend the Book of Common Prayer; adopt communions and covenants with other churches; set qualifications for orders of ministry and office-holders; elect officers of the General Convention, the Executive Council, and members of boards; and delegate responsibilities to the committees, commissions, agencies, and boards of the Episcopal Church.
Follow the work of the Diocese of Milwaukee's deputation to the 2015 General Convention at the deputation WEBSITE and FACEBOOK page. If you have questions, concerns, or ideas you wish to communicate to the deputation, you may do so on their website's Contact page.
In addition, members of the diocese are invited to attend two information sessions that the Milwaukee Deputation and Bishop Miller will conduct in the diocese in June to present topics, potential legislation and events scheduled for the convention. Come to meet some of the deputies and to learn what they and the Bishop will be working on this summer in Salt Lake City. Note, information sessions are identical, so there is no need to attend both. The two sessions are set for:
June 1 at St. Dunstan's Madison at 6:30 PM
June 3 at Trinity Wauwatosa at 6:30 PM

What are we doing for Kick-Off Sunday next fall?
You might be thinking, whoa Carla, we're just trying to wrap up this formation program year. Who's thinking about next fall? But thinking NOW about next fall will really help you Kick-off to the first field goal of the new season.
First, take some time to reflect on this past formation season or year. Name the things that went well and name the things you think could have gone better. List your goals for next year in formation, and not just for the Sunday school class or youth group. List your formation goals for adult formation, stewardship, new comer orientation, baptismal and marriage preparations, etc.
Now, what pieces that you have in place already fit your new list of goals? What pieces are missing? Starting early means you'll have time to do solid resource research and pick the resources that will work best for your parish and context. READ MORE

POVERTY FORUMS Wisconsin Conference of Churches (WCC) invites clergy and lay to forums
[from the Wisconsin Conference of Churches] Last year over 700 local faith leaders throughout our state met in five regional forums (Madison, Milwaukee, Appleton, Stevens Point and Eau Claire) to discuss the scope and shape of poverty in Wisconsin and the role of the religious community in alleviating poverty long term.
This year, the four original sponsors of the 2014 forums-the Wisconsin Council of Churches, WISDOM, the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families, and the Citizen Action Education Fund of Wisconsin - are planning to host a second round of forums for local faith and community leaders. Five poverty forums are planned for the greater Milwaukee area (see below).
The spring 2015 forums will seek to engage a broader spectrum of faith community voices, to include those that were not a major part of the forums last year, especially Wisconsin's evangelical community, along with other local partners beyond the faith community. Our desire is to have a reasonable, faith-and-values-driven conversation about issues of poverty and public policy in communities with a diversity of political views. Each spring forum is envisioned to be 2.5 hours.

Healing Service on Wednesdays at St. Bartholomew's, Pewaukee
Seventy percent of Jesus' ministry was Healing. Luke 9:12 states that we are to preach the Kingdom and Heal the sick. Healing ministries offer listening, love, anointing and prayer for our body, mind and spirit. The laying on of hands and anointing with Holy Oil can be a powerful part of healing prayer.
St. Bartholomew's has a Healing Service every Wednesday evening at 6:15 P.M. (please note New Time). The service lasts approximately one/half hour.
The Healing Ministry of Jesus is to make people whole, not just physically, but spiritually, mentally and emotionally. The healing Ministry was such an essential part of Jesus' Ministry that I believe He imparted that responsibility to us in the Church who continues His work.
As a Chaplain at Waukesha Memorial Hospital I have the opportunity to serve Our Lord by helping patients to heal through listening, prayer and anointing. Read more
