 39TH ANNUAL MILITARY SCHOOL BAND FESTIVAL at SJNMA on MARCH 1, 2015
The public is invited to attend a performance of the St. John's Northwestern Military Academy's Concert Band and Choir on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 2pm. Admission is Free. Surprised by Beauty:
Photography by Jana Troutman-Miller
I loved taking photos even before I knew I loved taking photos. There has always been something about capturing on film, and now digitally, a single moment in time that has been very special to me.
There is nothing better than stumbling upon a moment of beauty and realizing that you have your camera with you! Seeing something special in either the beautiful or mundane, lining up the shot just right, getting home and seeing the image in full resolution, cropping it just so, and then being able to look critically at a piece and knowing that this is a beautiful subject and a beautiful photo.I find the process of cropping a photo in order to draw ones attention on a detail that might otherwise go unnoticed to be especially rewarding.
 There is so much in nature that we miss, often through no fault of our own because it is too small, or happens too fast. So to capture those moments in a photo is a gift to the senses and I am most happy when I discover those surprises long after the shot has been taken.
My hope is that my photography will inspire others to keep their cameras on hand and be prepared to capture their own moments where beauty catches them by surprise.

Jana Troutman-Miller is an Episcopal priest and health care chaplain. She is currently serving at Saint John's On the Lake in Milwaukee, WI. Jana has been interested in photography since she was a young girl and has a particular love for capturing details in nature and the lines in architecture.

Both locations begin at 9am and end at Noon. Remember that all Vestry and Clergy are required to complete all SafeGuarding Children/People courses.
L.E.V. are required to complete SGP and anyone who is in ministry with children and youth are required to complete SGC. All certificates need to be renewed every 5 years. Living Compass is pleased to announce our Lenten resource, Living Well through Lent 2015: Practicing Resilience with All Our Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind. Over the last few years, our seasonal devotionals have become an integral part of Living Compass' work of encouraging and supporting congregations in their mission and ministry. Our Lent 2015 edition is filled with thoughtful reflections from leaders across the Episcopal Church, including an introduction by our Presiding Bishop, the Most Reverend Dr. Katherine Jefferts Schori.

 Trinity Institute 2015: Creating Common Good
Note: This event was originally scheduled to be presented on Feb. 7 and Feb. 9. It has been RESCHEDULED and will now take place on March 28 (one date only).
You are invited to attend Trinity Institute (TI2015) - an annual conference that takes place in New York City -- but you can attend at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Dousman! All the elements of the NYC conference will be brought to you via webcast. This year's conference takes place on the pervasive, overwhelming issue of economic inequality. TI2015 speakers include The Most Rev. Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, and Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed. They have real-world experience making change happen. They will provide us with hopeful, practical tools we can use to make a positive economic impact.

Haiti Project - Lenten Opportunities
Bishop Miller will be asking parishes to keep our brothers and sisters in Haiti in their prayers and in their hearts during lent.
It will also be a time to learn more about the good work of the Haiti Project, and to raise much needed funds for the work to continue. A number of parishes have begun thinking how they can focus on Haiti.
Resources to support these efforts are available HERE and hard copies have been mailed to parishes.

Lenten Meditations - Water for our Spiritual and Physical Life , These are weekly medita tions based on scripture that were compiled by parishioners at Christ Church Whitefish Bay and graciously shared with the Haiti Project.Through the focus on water, Christ Church has raised over $3100.00 which was used to repair badly leaking cisterns. Lenten Calendar - This daily walk through lent offers specific ways to better understand how life in Haiti differs from that here. This is especially helpful for children, but adults will learn as lot as well! Craft templates and instructions - these are helpful materials for children and include instructions for constructing a tap-tap box. Tap-tap is the term Haitians use for public transportation vehicles and can work much like the UTO offering boxes. Ideas for special events - Maybe your parish would like to hold a rice and beans diner, to raise money for clean water. Resources will be available, but your parish may have it's own ideas. Feel free to be creative and then share your ideas and success with others! Speaker forum - invite a missioner who has traveled to Haiti to come present at your education hour or speak during a service or special event. Sell Singing Rooster Coffee - The Haiti Project receives $3.00 from every bag of Singing Rooster coffee sold in the diocese. If you already sell coffee - commit to selling more! [MDG 1,2,3] NEWALA: $1,370 for training courses for 2 Clinical Officers to work at St. Michael's Health Center in Lulundi. [MDG 4,5,6] CHRIST CHURCH, DELAVAN: $1,000 Feed My Starving Children, community project allowing them to pack 100,000 Manna Rice Packs [MDG1] It's time again to consider distribution of the 0.7% to projects that work toward the achievement of the MDGs. Xtring quartet plays their own arrangements of traditional music by well-known Colombian composers from the 19th century to the present as well as their own compositions set in Colombian Andean musical styles.
 Seminarian Shares her Faith Journey from Islam to Christianity at St. Michael's, Racine on February 22
On Sunday, February 22, Seminarian Ezigi Saribay, a convert from Islam, will speak at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Racine. She will share why she converted to Christianity and became an Episcopalian. Ms. Saribay is currently a Senor at Nashotah House Seminary from the Diocese of West Missouri. Born in Turkey, Saribay came to the United States as a teenager. A reception will begin at 4:00 followed by the presentation. The public is welcome to attend. Saint Andrew's, Madison visit to the Saint John's Bible on Feb. 22
Pages from the Saint John's Bible, a handwritten, illuminated (illustrated) bible are currently on display at the Chazen Museum in Madison. At 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, Chazen docent and parishioner Donna Peterson, along with the Rev. Dorota Pruski, will lead a private tour of the Saint John's Bible for members of Saint Andrew's and friends. Members of the Diocese of Milwaukee are most welcome to join us. The tour will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. and will end by 2:00. We will meet inside the Chazen Museum, just outside the exhibit hall. Participation will be capped at 30 people, so please sign up in advance by emailing or calling the Rev. Dorota Pruski at associate@standrews-madison.org or (608) 233-3249.
 Healing Event in Janesville March 20-21 sponsored by The Order of St. Luke
A Christian interdenominational healing event will be held in downtown Janesville at Trinity Episcopal Church Friday evening and Saturday, 20/21 March 2015.  Lenten Soup and Study Series: Bach's Passion OratoriosPlease join us on Wednesdays during Lent, from 6-8 PM, for warm fellowship and enlightening instruction. Gather at 6 PM in the Breck Refectory for a simple dinner of hot soup, fresh bread and a beverage before proceeding to Adams Hall for the evening's lecture and musical selections. (Both venues are located in Nashotah House's DeKoven Commons, where ample parking is provided on the north side of the building.) Presented by the Rev.  Mission trips to Haiti
The Diocese of Milwaukee Haiti Project is organizing mission trips to Jeannette, Haiti, for 2015. The dates for the trips will be March 13-22, tentatively April 17-26 and July 10-19. If there is enough interest, we will plan a fall trip. If you or someone you know is interested in going, please contact Mary Alice Eschweiler, sheppatch@aol.com.  EFM Mentor Training at DeKoven Center in March
The Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee is pleased to announce an Education for Ministry Mentor Training at DeKoven Center in Racine. The training workshop is scheduled to begin on March 12, 2015 at Noon and conclude on March 14 at 1:00 PM.
All sessions will take place at the DeKoven Center located at 600 21st Street in Racine, Wisconsin. Double-occupancy rooms are available for $190 and Single-occupancy rooms for $210. The price of the workshop includes Thursday dinner, all Friday meals, and Saturday breakfast and a bag lunch.
Anyone who has completed the four-year EfM program is eligible to take Mentor Training. All Diocesan Coordinators and current Mentors can be recertified at this training. To register please contact William Stotts at (414) 350-6305 or by e-mail at
