Members of Anglican Communion Churches worldwide are being invited to celebrate Advent through prayer, meditation and by contributing to a global Advent calendar on Instagram.

Advent - from Nov. 30 to Dec. 24 - is the season when Christians observe a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas.

The Anglican Communion Office and the Society of Saint John the Evangelist (SSJE) are teaming up to offer Anglicans and Episcopalians around the world a daily word, meditation and beautiful image sent to their e-mail inboxes.

New book by The Rev. Scott Stoner:  "Your Living Compass"

[Editor's note: The Rev. Scott Stoner is a longtime priest of the  Diocese of Milwaukee]

The Rev. Dr. Scott Stoner, founder of the Living Compass Faith and Wellness Ministry, has written a new book for people seeking balance in heart, soul, strength and mind. "Your Living Compass:  Living Well in Thought, Word and Deed,"is now available in print and e-book versions from Church Publishing Incorporated.

"Living Compass isn't a self-help program," says Stoner, an Episcopal priest and psychotherapist in Milwaukee. "We have been given our wholeness, through our baptism. This is about responding to that gift. This is not 'Ten Steps to a Better You.' It is really a spiritual formation program, a structured approach to making faith our compass in every aspect of our lives."

Bishop Jeffrey D. Lee of the Diocese of Chicago echoes Stoner's words in his foreword to the new book. Living Compass "offers a way simply to pay attention to your life, to note what is most alive and growing, and what needs to be nurtured and tended for the sake of the abundant life Jesus promises," says Lee.

  Books offered . . .

I am in the process of closing down my small publishing company and in so doing I have some books that I am free to give away.  I have two of them (both small, stapled) that I believe could be helpful in the diocese.

1. Soothed by Blood: Shedding Light on Self-Mutilative Cutting;

2. The Challenging Years: Shedding Light on Teen Sexuality.

Both are written by Twila Pearson, PhD.  Twila received her doctorate from the University  of WI in Counseling Psychology.  She has worked in the mental health field for over 25 years.  She is also a woman of faith and incorporates God's perspective and His ability to heal in all her writing. I would be very happy to send them to individuals and parishes, free shipping to anyone interested.  I have over 1500 of Soothed and almost 500 of Challenging Years. My contact information is Terrie Knox   920-723-3454   or email:   knoxterrie@gmail.com   Thanks so much.

Blessings,   Terrie Knox
