Asante! Asante! Bishop Oscar's visit to Trinity, Wauwatosa
Reprinted from Trinity, Wauwatosa's e-newsletter of 21 October 2014 following a visit by Bishop Oscar Mnung'a of Newala, the Diocese of Milwaukee's Companion Diocese.
Asante! Asante! Asante!
(Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!)
These were the words Bishop Oscar repeated countless times to me as he prepared to depart our parish hall this past Sunday morning.
And now, two days after his visit among us, I find myself saying my newest Swahili vocabulary word over and over again.
Asante! Tom Koester, for you gift of liturgical imagination and willingness to follow the Spirit's leading in sharing your gift of music.
Asante! Trinity choir and musicians, for all of your preparation and rehearsal to lead our gathered community in praise and worship. You sounded fabulous!
Asante!
Jill Paradowski and your faithful band of kitchen helpers, who once again gave amazing witness to the fact that Trinity feeds people in body, mind and spirit. The first potluck brunch of the program year was a stunning success.

Asante!
Trinity Church, because through your amazing generosity, we have, as of yesterday (Monday, October 20) received just over $4,400 towards the purchase of new pikipikis (pictured above) for the work of the Gospel in our Companion Diocese of Newala. As I presently understand the process, this amount will cover the cost of procuring three motorcycles, shipping them to, and assembling them in Newala plus providing insurance for the vehicles (approximately $1,300/unit), with a bit left over towards the next purchase.
We will mail the check for the total amount collected to the Diocese of Milwaukee Newala Fund next Monday, October 27th, which means there is still time to contribute if you haven't had the opportunity. Simply make your check out to Trinity Episcopal Church and write, "Newala" in the memo line. And again, ASANTE!

You are invited to the next Julian Gathering . . .
Madison-Area Julian Gathering
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 7:15 - 9:00 PM
St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church
6205 University Avenue
Madison, WI 53705
What is a Julian Gathering? A Julian Gathering is open to everyone and you are welcome at all times. We support each other in the practice of contemplative prayer and contemplative spirituality. These gatherings are initiated and supported by the Order of Julian of Norwich (www.orderofjulian.org) and have the quintessentially Anglican writings of Bl. Mother Julian of Norwich at their core. They are for all who want to deepen their life of faith through the practice of contemplative prayer, for beginners as well as those already practicing. Each meeting includes time for contemplative prayer and reading/discussion of Bl. Julian's revelations. Don't worry if you've never practiced silent prayer before, we can set your mind at ease. We meet the second Wednesday of each month from 7:15 to 9 PM. For additional information, contact Susan Fiore, ObJN: (608) 845-2413 or slfiore@mac.com |
Carving Pumpkins at St. Alban's aids Hospitality Center
For the last several months, pumpkin vines have been growing at the base of the sign in front of St. Alban's, Sussex. The pumpkins were auctioned off to St. Alban's parishioners on Sunday morning. The children chose to donate the proceeds, which were over $110.00 to the Hospitality Center.
