Diocesan Convention 2014
Know  The Diocese of Milwaukee held its 167th Annual Convvention on October 10-11 in Madison.  It was a joyous event that welcomed special guests from Newala, our companion diocese in Tanzania and saw the presentation of Bishop's Shield Awards to two longtime servants of the Church and this diocese, Dr. Charles Bardenwerper (retiring historian) and Deacon Richard E.G. "Regs" Scheeler.  More information will appear in future editions of the E-NEWS but we are pleased to offer some preliminary PHOTOS and ELECTION RESULTS in this issue.  (Photos courtesy of Deacon Karen Buker)

Special treats were available and enjoyed by 18 dogs of all sizes and shapes.   Susan Gootsan, whose two dogs were among the largest to be blessed, helped coordinate the event, and Parish Photographer, Don Wehrenberg, took many photographs.

Food packers (L-R) Roberta Karstetter, Grace Hirte, Dennis Schulz, and Ron Nelson
Christ Church, Delavan celebrates St. Francis Day

Christ Church, Delavan celebrated the Feast of St. Francis on Saturday, Oct. 4th, by preparing 116,640 meals for "the least of these of our brothers and sisters"with Feed My Starving Children (www.fmsc.org) an international hunger elimination organization. From 9:00am-5:00pm we combined vitamins, vegetables, protein and rice into sealed "Manna Packs" with each pack feeding six people a nutritious meal. The end result? Enough food to feed 319 children a meal a day for a whole year!

The vision for Christ Church's leadership with this first-ever FMSC Mobile Packing Event in Delavan was birthed by parishioners Ron and Susanne Nelson. Our congregation did an amazing job showing leadership in our community with Ron and Susanne, Tammy Prather and Roberta Karstetter serving as 1/3rd of the total Event Leadership Team that recruited and coordinated over 500 volunteers (representing 13 Churches, 5 organizations and many individuals) and organized over a dozen fundraising events. Christ Church, Delavan raised over $7,000 of the total $22,000 needed and 40 of our parishioners packed meals on the day of the event. And we exceeded our goal of packing 100,000 meals by 16,640! We're incredibly grateful to our Diocese for contributing $1,000 to Christ Church's $7,000+ in support of Millennium Development Goals. What a privilege it is to serve our Lord Jesus in the face of His Children.

Fundraising doesn't steal resources from other areas

(from Episcopal Church Foundation's Vital Practices/Vestry Papers)

When thinking about fundraising, there may be the assumption that a capital campaign will negatively impact annual giving. Some believe a donor's willingness to give is capped at a fixed capacity and is immoveable. Anna Doherty, priest in charge, St. Aidan's, Hartford, Wisconsin describes the concern expressed by members of her congregation:

"Our parish can barely raise enough money to meet our operating expenses, how could we raise more for a capital campaign?"

Through a program of increased education about stewardship, and conversations centered around the congregation's mission and impact in the community, St. Aiden's capital campaign leadership team discovers that donors' willingness to give or to prioritize their giving increases.

New Intergenerational Book/E-Book

Faith is transmitted from generation to generation in extended families and intergenerational congregations. Every congregation can discover its intergenerational heart and soul, and become an intentionally intergenerational community that nurtures the faith of all ages and equips them for living as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.

Generations Together presents the vision of a congregation that is becoming more intentionally intergenerational through its congregational life of caring, celebrating, learning, prayer, and serving. When a congregation commits itself to building a culture of intergenerationality through these five elements, each element becomes a sign of and instrument for the full experience of the Body of Christ by all ages and generations.
Generations Together

guides leaders in learning what this vision looks like in practice and how to guide a congregation in envisioning and designing projects and initiative to become more intentionally intergenerational.
