He hid his name and identity but he could not hide his heart
He went by the name of "Moses". When he died of an apparent heart attack this Spring, many in Racine who never knew his real name felt a deep sense of loss; they may not have known his name, but they felt they knew him. People at the Hospitality Center at St. Luke's, Racine were among those who mourned his loss and celebrated his life. The Rev. Kevin Stewart, the Diocese of Milwaukee's Hospitality Ministries Coordinator, explains that Moses probably suffered from some form of mental illness; he had long since abandoned the career in computer science he prepared for in college. For many years, he lived amongst the street people and other vulnerable souls in Racine, for whom he looked out. He touched many lives, as witnessed by the crowd that gathered for his memorial service at St. Luke's, Racine. They came from many different walks of life to remember the kind man who struggled with issues of his own but used his remaining gifts to brighten the world of those around him. He will be missed by those that were part of his community. As Kevin Stewart says, 'he hid his name; he hid his identity; he could not hide his heart'. Read more |

Julian Gathering - July 9th

Madison-Area Julian Gathering
Wednesday, July 9, 7:15 - 9 PM
St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church
6205 University Avenue
Madison, WI 53705
What is a Julian Gathering? A Julian Gathering is open to everyone and you are welcome at all times. We support each other in the practice of contemplative prayer and contemplative spirituality. These gatherings are initiated and supported by The Order of Julian of Norwich (www.orderofjulian.org), and have the quintessentially Anglican writings of Julian of Norwich at their core. They are for all who want to deepen their life of faith through the practice of contemplative prayer, for beginners as well as those already practicing. Each meeting includes time for contemplative prayer, and reading and discussion of Julian's writings (there is no homework!). Don't worry if you've never practiced contemplative prayer before, we can set your mind at ease. We meet the second Wednesday of each month from 7:15 to 9 PM. For additional information, contact Susan Fiore, ObJN at slfiore@mac.com.

A message from Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
We want to hear from YOU!
At the 2012 Triennial meeting of the women of the church a resolution was passed to look at the future of the Episcopal Church Women as an organization. A committee was formed which has been working hard in addressing this issue. There is now a survey which takes about 5 minutes to complete. We would like to hear from women, men, young, old, active ECW members, people who have no connection with ECW - in other words - everyone.
There are 2 websites for this survey to be done electronically and the deadline is June 30. Please consider clicking on, responding and submitting the survey so your voice can be heard. Questions? Contact Connie Ott at cott@chorus.net

Celebrating Mission and Development in the Diocese!
Did you know that there are eight congregations in the diocese who are in the midst of capital campaigns? These congregations are doing campaigns for a variety of different reasons, everything from debt retirement to building projects. The congregations are also choosing to do their campaigns in many different ways; some are using consultants and companies, others are managing the campaigns themselves. Regardless of how they are doing the campaigns and the reasons why, we celebrate the fact that so many churches are in the midst of exciting visioning and planning for their future! It is an exciting time for these congregations, and please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. For more information on capital campaigns please visit http://www.ecfvp.org/webinars/transformation-by-capital-campaign/ or The James Company website . If you have specific questions about campaigns in our diocese, please contact Peggy Bean at bean@diomil.org. |

Parish Financial Aid / Grant Applications now available!
by Peggy Bean, Canon for Parishes
In years past The Commission on Mission and Development offered Challenge grants for $1,000 and Meachem Fund grants for up to $5,000. This year we will have consolidated the two grants into one application - the 2014 Ministry Development Grant Application. It can be found on the website on the Mission and Development page.
We are offering Ministry grants up to $1,000 and Development grants up to $5,000. Check the application for details. Also note there are two different due dates - June 15th and October 15th. We did this knowing some of you have projects needing funding right now and others are still in the planning stage and may need it later. We look forward to learning about your projects.
The 2015 Application for Financial Aid is also available on the Mission and Development page. The due date for completion is July 15, 2014. Questions on any of the grants please contact Peggy Bean at 414-272-3028 or bean@diomil.org
