CAMP WEBB: June 16-21, 2013 |
Camp Webb 2013: Living the Adventure with Living Compass
Camp Webb was a SUCCESS!
We had 34 registered campers!
We didn't go over budget!
These are big success points for Camp Webb as we've been working hard to make camp a purposeful ministry in our diocese.
I have to thank my star Program Director, Sarah Hoff, for her 8th year of ministry, leadership and guidance.
I've already heard from families that their campers are still talking about the fun and the things they learned at camp this summer.
We truly lived an excellent week of adventure: lakefront, campfires, climbing wall and ropes course, CanoEucharist, daily worship, crafts, and FUN!
Our theme this summer walked us through Luke 7:27, "Love the Lord your God with all your body, mind, heart & soul and love your neighbor as yourself."
Each day we took just a piece of Christ's commandment and discovered together how we can obey. Camp Counselors April Carstens, Josh Fuher and Haley Miller made a great week for Inermediate Campers. The High school leadership camp delved deeply into the learning with seminarians: Lars Skoglund and Ezgi Saribay using the Living Compass workbooks, "Living Well with Living Compass for Emerging Adults and Teens." This curriculum is available for confirmation classes and for teen/young adult formation classes from Living Compass.org.
The dates for Camp Webb 2014 are already set!
Staff Week - June 15-20, 2014
Campers' Week (Intermediate & Leadership Camps) June 22-27, 2014.
Mark your calendars now. Plan to register early as this year we were full - you want to avoid a waiting list! Registration Opens December 15, 2013.
You can Camp all year long! Follow Webbster, our Camp Webb goose on Camp Webb Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/#!/CampWebbWisconsin

Diocesan Mission Trip to Irvine Kentucky, Appalachian Missions, June 30-July 6 |
| Irvine or Bust! |
What an amazing Mission Trip!
It was a fantastic week, a week of hard work and perspiration, and of unexpected "bless your socks off" moments.
We served the community of Irvine on the top of a mountain. Half of our team spent their days building and doing reconstruction work for some of the local families.
The other half offered a Vacation Bible School to the children, moms and grandmothers. I had never had this kind of VBS experience before. I'm accustomed to the parents dropping off the children and returning to pick up. On this occasion the parents and grandparents stayed for the full day. What an awesome opportunity to serve not just the children but the adults, too. And these creative, strong women shared with us.
Our group has already been asked to return next summer. I don't know what the team will decide at their August 26th meeting. But if you want to serve in mission work the team I took with me can certainly lead you in doing it!
Again, we thank the Prayer Partners - no injuries or illness and in part due to your prayers.
Thank you to the individuals and churches that sent the many boxes filled with school supplies! While we were there we were already sharing supplies with the college students going off to school.
Thank you to the families who allowed us to take your family member on our trip for a week!

Safeguarding God's Children & Safeguarding God's People In-Class Trainings and On-line |
Safeguarding God's Children
We are changing the way we schedule trainings this fall to hosting regional trainings in place of scheduling trainings on an as needed basis. We want to be proactive and resourceful in these trainings for the diocese. Regional trainings allow us to plan the dates for trainings in advance for calendar planning. Deacon Terry Garner is scheduling the fall and spring (2014) classes now.
Tentative Dates and Places are:
September 28, 9 - Noon
February 22, 2014, 9- Noon
As soon as the locations are confirmed we will let you know.
ONLINE SGC and SGP CLASSES INFORMATION:
SGC is also available for renewal of certificate on-line!
Safeguarding God's People (SGP) is ONLY ONLINE.
NEW Online Course: For VBS and Day Camp Staff
If you or your parish is leading a VBS or hosting a Day Camp (non-overnight camp) your staff can now take the Safeguarding Training Online! We are one of the first dioceses to make this training available.
Online registrations are always done on or before the 20th of each month. Online course certificates are sent out on the 30th of each month.
You can always visit our website, www.diomil.org to view Master List of Attendees, Know Who's Required to take these trainings, and more information. |

DFS meets one weekend a month from September thru June. Weekends begin on Saturday mornings at 8:00AM and ends Sunday afternoon at 4:00PM. All weekends held at the DeKoven Center, Racine. A schedule of current class offerings and their times during a weekend are available at our website (see above).
Continuing Education & Formation for All Clergy:
Attend DFS for continuing education and formation, for part of the weekend, for one class, or for the full weekends. Continuing education is on an "a la carte" payment plan. Each session of class is $20 and an overnight stay at DeKoven Center is $130/night.
Contributions to Support DFS:
Due to the cost of staying overnights and meals, tuition for postulants has increased considerably. If a parish or individual would like to sponsor or send financial aid for our students your gift would be most appreciated. You may send a check to the Diocese of Milwaukee, c/o Deacon's School for Formation, 804 E. Juneau Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53202, Memo Line: Deacon School. More information may be found on the diocesan website, www.diomil.org . Thank you to those who have sent contributions!

Awesome New Reads! |
This month I would like to highlight a book by another of our members of the Diocese of Milwaukee.
Meet June G. Paul, author of Praying Our Way Through Stress, Drawing Wisdom from the Lord's Life and Prayer
The book invites readers to do some introspection and open up to the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. "Readers will first learn about the manifestations and dangers of unresolved stress. How we respond to stress and see the causes of stress in life and learn how Jesus responded to stress. By reflection on the Sermon on the Mount and the Lord's Prayer we may learn healthier way sof managing stress and helping others to do the same."
Her new book is available through Westbow Press.com; from the author herself; Amazon; Barnes & Noble; and Family Christian Bookstores.
June offers to hold a workshop, conference or retreat for your parish or group. Her book also makes a great 5-6 week group study. |
