Hospitality Center partners with Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints
by The Rev. Kevin Stewart, Hospitality Center dire ctor
I am pleased to announce that The Hospitality Center is working together with Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints to provide much-needed health care services to the underserved in Racine, specifically the homeless or nearly homeless. Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group - All Saints will donate primary care medical services for this delicate population through a couple hours each week at its 1320 Wisconsin Avenue location. Services will be provided by family medicine physicians and nurse practitioners beginning Thursday, April 25th.
Any specialty care services, like diabetes management, cardiology, etc. or diagnostic services will be referred by the physician or nurse practitioner caring for the patient. Additionally, All Saints financial counseling staff will be working with patients to help them determine eligibility with health care coverage sources like Medicaid or Health care network. We hope this relationship with All Saints will not only help the people of The Hospitality Center get the medical care they need, but will also give them the encouragement to be better advocates for their own health in the future.

Stepping Back in Time . . .
Sunday, May 5, as part of the 175th celebrations, St. Paul's Church, 914 E. Knapp Street, Milwaukee, will re-create worship from the Civil War era at both services. The 1789 Book of Common Prayer will be used for Morning Prayer at 8AM, and the 10:15AM service that will also feature Choral Matins with a male choir. Both services will be in the Low Church tradition.
After the services the coffee hours will highlight delicious desserts favored during the time period; treats will be baked by members of the congregation. The community is invited.
At the 10:15AM service special guests will be Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Mitchell and Col. Edwin L. and Mrs. Buttrick; they may also be bringing some of their friends. Portraying these special guests will be members of West Side Soldiers Aid Society, a living history, non-profit organization portraying benevolent activities of the citizens of Milwaukee during and following the Civil War.
Members of the congregation must keep in mind, especially at the late service: early St. Paul's families were pew owners, and only they were allowed to sit in their pew. However, if the owners were not in their pew by the time the service began, those who did not own a pew could sit in any empty pew. On May 5, choose your seats carefully. Those attending must remember, ladies always wore hats to church during this period.
St. Paul's Church was founded in 1838, is the oldest Episcopal Church in Milwaukee, precedes the City and Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee and has always been located in the downtown area. Members of St. Paul's congregation live in the city, as well as in the Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Waukesha County suburbs.

Goodbye and Hello to The Rev. Deacon Terry Garner
After 26 years of diaconal service (and several years as a lay person before that), Terry Garner is moving from St. James', Milwaukee, to St. Boniface, Mequon. Terry's impact at St. James' has been immeasurable. He has been an agent of hospitality, a voice for the marginalized, a leader in formation, and much more, and we will miss him dearly. St. Boniface is blessed to have such a faithful deacon.
Terry's last Sunday at St. James' is April 21st. His ministry has affected people all over the diocese, and everyone in the diocese is invited to join us on the 21st at 10:00 a.m. for a celebration of his ministry at St. James'. We want to send him to St. Boniface in style, so please join us!

Madison-Area Julian Gathering
Wednesday, May 8, 7:15 - 9:00 PM
St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church
6205 University Avenue
Madison, WI 53705
Julian of Norwich, ca.1342 - 1416, lived in terrible times: the Black Death (bubonic plague) and repeated famines ravaged the English population; Lollards (then considered heretics) were burned at the stake just outside Norwich; the Hundred Years War with France, the Peasants' Revolt in 1381 and other civil strife meant continual warfare and conflict. Many people and even the Church believed that God was punishing them. How could anyone who lived at the time believe in the unconditional love of God?
"In a medieval church which emphasized God's condemning wrath, Julian wrote, 'There is no wrath in God....It is the most impossible thing that can be that God would be angry, for wrath and friendship are two opposites.'" (from the Order of Julian of Norwich's website: http://www.orderofjulian.org/julian_of_norwich.html
Join us in reading and discussing Julian's "Revelations of Divine Love" and practicing contemplative prayer together. Brief guidance on contemplative prayer will be offered for newcomers. Our next meeting is May 8 For more information, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN: slfiore@mac.com ; (608) 845-2413
