St. James, Milwaukee welcomes new priest-in-charge, The Rev. Drew Bunting

adapted from information on the parish website  www.stjamesmilwaukee.org

St. James' is pleased to announce that The Rev. Drew Bunting began serving as their new Priest-In-Charge effective March 18.

After completing his Master of Divinity at Yale, Drew served parishes in Miami and Washington, D.C. before moving to Milwaukee with his wife April, the rector at St. Mark's on the East Side. They have a two year old son, Elijah, and their next son is due this month. Most recently Drew was the Priest-In-Charge at Resurrection Church in Mukwonago.

Drew's position at St. James' will be half-time; outside of his work at St. James', he is a full-time dad and husband, a part-time student at Marquette, and a passionate amateur musician. Drew wants everyone to know that he is truly excited to serve as the priest at St. James'.

The paish welcomes Drew Bunting to their community, giving  thanks to God for his faithfulness during their transition.

Goodbye and Hello to The Rev. Deacon Terry Garner

After 26 years of diaconal service (and several years as a lay person before that), Terry Garner is moving from St. James', Milwaukee, to St. Boniface, Mequon. Terry's impact at St. James' has been immeasurable. He has been an agent of hospitality, a voice for the marginalized, a leader in formation, and much more, and we will miss him dearly. St. Boniface is blessed to have such a faithful deacon.

Terry's last Sunday at St. James' is April 21st. His ministry has affected people all over the diocese, and everyone in the diocese is invited to join us on the 21st at 10:00 a.m. for a celebration of his ministry at St. James'. We want to send him to St. Boniface in style, so please join us!

 Christian Formation News & Updates

CAMP WEBB: June 16-21, 2013 - LIVING the ADVENTURE!

Registrations, as of March 13th, are 16 campers. This is a good start; but we need to fill our camp this summer (total of campers needs to be 40). We are only 1/3 of the way to our total and we're already into March.

After last summers' low numbers, the Executive Council made the decision that if Camp Webb does not fill in the summer of 2013, then 2013 will be the last year for Camp Webb. If you have a son or daughter, or grandchildren aging from rising 3rd graders to 12th graders (fall of 2013) we hope they will join us for camp.

For more information visit our diocesan website at http://www.diomil.org/ministries/christian-formation/camp-webb/  . Scholarships are still available.

DEACON'S SCHOOL OF FORMATION

Deacon's School of Formation OPENS September 13, 2013 for our first weekend of classes. Changes to the New School include:

  1. New Time and Place for Meeting
  2. New Emphasis on the Practice of Ministry
  3. Ordained Deacons may return for continuing education and formation

One weekend a month (10 months) September thru June the School for Formation meets. Weekends begin on Friday evenings at 8:30PM and end Sunday afternoon at 4:00PM. All weekends held at the DeKoven Center, Racine. All postulants for Holy Orders to the Diaconal Ministry may begin this September. A new emphasis in the school is on the practicum of ministry in all academic areas. Deacons may come for continuing education and formation, for part of the weekend, for one class, or for the full weekends. Continuing education is on an "a la carte" payment plan. Due to the cost of staying overnights and meals, tuition for postulants has increased considerably. If a parish or individual would like to sponsor or send financial aid for our students your gift would be most appreciated. You may send a check to the Diocese of Milwaukee, c/o Deacon's School for Formation, 804 E. Juneau Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53202, Memo Line: Deacon School. Madison-Area Julian Gathering

Wednesday, May 8, 7:15 - 9:00 PM

St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church

6205 University Avenue

Madison, WI  53705

Julian of Norwich, ca.1342 - 1416, lived in terrible times: the Black Death (bubonic plague) and repeated famines ravaged the English population; Lollards (then considered heretics) were burned at the stake just outside Norwich; the Hundred Years War with France, the Peasants' Revolt in 1381 and other civil strife meant continual warfare and conflict.  Many people and even the Church believed that God was punishing them.  How could anyone who lived at the time believe in the unconditional love of God?

"In a medieval church which emphasized God's condemning wrath, Julian wrote, 'There is no wrath in God....It is the most impossible thing that can be that God would be angry, for wrath and friendship are two opposites.'"  (from the Order of Julian of Norwich's website: http://www.orderofjulian.org/julian_of_norwich.html

Join us in reading and discussing Julian's "Revelations of Divine Love" and practicing contemplative prayer together.  Brief guidance on contemplative prayer will be offered for newcomers.  Our next meeting is May 8 For more information, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN: slfiore@mac.com ; (608) 845-2413

A Note from the Diocese of Milwaukee
Commission on Global Reconciliation

Each year our diocese allocates 0.7% of the diocesan budget to support work done to achieve MDGs by parishes and entities within the diocese.

  Eight Goals

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  7. Develop a global partnership for development
  8. Ensure environmental sustainability

Last year, contributions from our diocese were sent to 2 projects that are supported by congregations within our diocese:

A program at St. Mary's Cathedral, Newala in which the church leaders trained last year will conduct public meetings throughout the diocese for education about HIV/AIDS and diagnosis. The request includes funds for refresher training, public meetings and transportation, and diagnostic equipment. Project proposed by All Saints Cathedral, Milwaukee.

A program at St. Francis Anglican Church, Johannesburg, South Africa to develop and pilot a faith-based 12 month support system for young women (15-24) who are HIV positive, pregnant and vulnerable, in order to ensure the good health of the baby and mother and to break the cycle of deprivation. Project proposed by St. Dunstan's, Madison.

It's time again to consider distribution of the 0.7% to projects that work toward the achievement of the MDGs. For more information, please see our Letter to Parishes  on the Diocesan website or contact: Deacon Carol Smith at (608) 230-6888 or csmith@carthage.edu .
