Diane Blank | Staff changes at Nicholson House
Diocese bids fond farewell to
Diane Blank, welcomes Tyrone Diggs
The year Diane Blank began her tenure as the Diocese of Milwaukee's finance officer, the United States and Russia pronounced the "Cold War" officially ended and Bill Clinton was elected President of the United States. It was late fall of 1992 . . . the internet had just been launched, laptop computers and color monitors were still novelties, and cell phones were phones -- period; it would be the new millennium before they got 'smart'. If all that seems like a long time ago . . . it was!
In her two decades in the diocesan finance office, Diane oversaw the installation of a computerized accounting system and also helped many parishes make the switch to electronic accounting and bookkeeping. In addition to her financial duties, Diane was always ready to help with diocesan convention and other major undertakings, where her organizational skills were appreciated by all.
Over those 20 years, Diane's children, Megan and Christopher went from elementary school to middle school and on to high school and college. Both are now young professionals pursuing their own careers (journalism for Christopher and Recreational Therapy for Megan). Diane and her husband, Brian, had long looked forward to moving to northern Wisconsin when they reached the "empty nest" phase . . . perhaps not fully or permanently retiring, but "relocating" as they begin this new chapter in their lives. Now they have taken that step and we wish them every joy and blessing in their adventure 'up north'!
Diane will be missed by many in the diocese and we know they join those of us at Nicholson House in thanksgiving for Diane's many years of outstanding service in our midst, as well as wishing her every happiness in the years to come. Thank you, Diane . . . we will miss you!
Please welcome the diocese's new finance officer, Tyrone Diggs, who joined the staff last week. He is enthused about continuing the high level of service the finance office was known for during his predecessor's long tenure, and looks forward to becoming acquainted with many in the diocese in the coming weeks and months. He will be profiled in an upcoming issue of E-NEWS. |

Madison-Area Julian Gathering
Wednesday, May 8, 7:15 - 9:00 PM
St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church
6205 University Avenue
Madison, WI 53705
Julian of Norwich, ca.1342 - 1416, lived in terrible times: the Black Death (bubonic plague) and repeated famines ravaged the English population; Lollards (then considered heretics) were burned at the stake just outside Norwich; the Hundred Years War with France, the Peasants' Revolt in 1381 and other civil strife meant continual warfare and conflict. Many people and even the Church believed that God was punishing them. How could anyone who lived at the time believe in the unconditional love of God?
"In a medieval church which emphasized God's condemning wrath, Julian wrote, 'There is no wrath in God....It is the most impossible thing that can be that God would be angry, for wrath and friendship are two opposites.'" (from the Order of Julian of Norwich's website: http://www.orderofjulian.org/julian_of_norwich.html
Join us in reading and discussing Julian's "Revelations of Divine Love" and practicing contemplative prayer together. Brief guidance on contemplative prayer will be offered for newcomers. Our next meeting is May 8 For more information, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN: slfiore@mac.com ; (608) 845-2413

What in the World are you doing?
A Note from the Diocese of Milwaukee
Commission on Global Reconciliation
Each year our diocese allocates 0.7% of the diocesan budget to support work done to achieve MDGs by parishes and entities within the diocese.
Eight Goals
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote gender equality and empower women
- Reduce child mortality
- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Develop a global partnership for development
- Ensure environmental sustainability
Last year, contributions from our diocese were sent to 2 projects that are supported by congregations within our diocese:
A program at St. Mary's Cathedral, Newala in which the church leaders trained last year will conduct public meetings throughout the diocese for education about HIV/AIDS and diagnosis. The request includes funds for refresher training, public meetings and transportation, and diagnostic equipment. Project proposed by All Saints Cathedral, Milwaukee.
A program at St. Francis Anglican Church, Johannesburg, South Africa to develop and pilot a faith-based 12 month support system for young women (15-24) who are HIV positive, pregnant and vulnerable, in order to ensure the good health of the baby and mother and to break the cycle of deprivation. Project proposed by St. Dunstan's, Madison.
It's time again to consider distribution of the 0.7% to projects that work toward the achievement of the MDGs. For more information, please see our Letter to Parishes on the Diocesan website or contact: Deacon Carol Smith at (608) 230-6888 or csmith@carthage.edu . |

Christian Formation News & Updates
WOMEN'S LENTEN RETREAT: "Praying as though your life depended on it, because it does!" Retreat day was held at the Redemptorist Center, Oconomowoc, on March 9, 2013. We had a wonderful gathering of 19 women, sharing the day together learning about prayer through the story of Hannah (1 Samuel 1:1-2:11). We shared together about how as women we sometimes worry about "everything," and how we can make decisions not to worry; but, to give everything to God in prayer. We are already looking forward to next year's retreat! Thank you to Sandi Smith and Carla McCook for a wonderful day.
CAMP WEBB: June 16-21, 2013 - LIVING the ADVENTURE!
Registrations, as of March 13th, are 16 campers. This is a good start; but we need to fill our camp this summer (total of campers needs to be 40). We are only 1/3 of the way to our total and we're already into March.
After last summers' low numbers, the Executive Council made the decision that if Camp Webb does not fill in the summer of 2013, then 2013 will be the last year for Camp Webb. If you have a son or daughter, or grandchildren aging from rising 3rd graders to 12th graders (fall of 2013) we hope they will join us for camp.
For more information visit our diocesan website at http://www.diomil.org/ministries/christian-formation/camp-webb/ . Scholarships are still available.

If you have your collection, please let Carla McCook know so we can gather the supplies at the diocesan office.
