 Pre-Lenten Women's Day at St. Matthew's Kenosha
"Seasons of Change" is the title of the Pre-Lenten Women's Day event at St. Matthew's, Kenosha to be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 from 9:00am to 3:00pm in the Guild Hall. Cost is $15 which includes continental breakfast and a boxed lunch (choice of turkey, ham or vegetarian). Vickie Garvey, Bishop's Associate for Lifelong Christian Formation, will be the guest speaker.

Internationanl Icon Exhibit to visit All Saints' Cathedral
All Saints' Episcopal Cathedral in Milwaukee, WI, is sponsoring a two-month run of Icons in Transformation, a stunning international art show by acclaimed abstract expressionist Ludmila Pawlowska. The show has toured in European and British cathedrals, as well as in cathedrals and churches in the United States, earning rave reviews. It will be at All Saints' from April 12 through June 9, 2013.
Ludmila, an expatriate Russian now living in Sweden, has been deeply influenced by traditional Eastern Orthodox icons. Mike Phillips, a previous host from Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, described her work as "highly original, in-your-face abstract art with a deeply spiritual feel."
Over a hundred pieces of Pawlowska's work will be displayed at several locations within All Saints', including the nave, narthex, corridors, and library. In addition, a collection of traditional icons created by contemporary artists from Vassilevsky Monastery in Russia is also part of the exhibit.
More information about Ludmila Pawlowska and her work may be found at her web site. Details of the exhibit and a schedule of viewing times and special activities will be available on the Cathedral website closer to the event.

Safeguarding God's Children training
Note: Date of training at St. Matthew's, Kenosha has been changed from January 19 to FEBRUARY 23.
 Safeguarding God's Children is mandatory for all clergy, vestry and any church person who works with minors in a parish or church ministry. Certificate is to be renewed every 5 years. You must attend a class led by a diocesan trainer for your first training. Clergy and Laity that have already been to a 4-hour class normally may take re-certification on-line but during the month of January, as we transition to a new diocesan website, only the trainer led option is available and the next trainer led class is:

(Preventing Sexual Exploitation in Communities of Faith and Preventing
Sexual Harassment of Church Workers)
Safeguarding God's People is the training program which is for protection of adults with regard to sexual exploitation and sexual harassment. This training is required for all clergy, vestry members, and strongly recommended for Lay Eucharistic Visitors and others who minister directly with adults. SGP is ONLY ON-LINE!  Share Worship & Table Fellowship with St. Francis House
St. Francis House would like to share worship and table fellowship with parishes and other entities. St. Francis House is the Episcopal ministry at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. While the House is being renovated, the St. Francis House community is meeting at Grace Episcopal Church on the Square. The community gathers on Sundays at 5 pm for worship followed by a meal. If you like to cook for an appreciative group, this may be the ministry for you! Plan to cook for 15-20 students, bring the meal to Grace at 4:30 pm, worship with us at 5 pm, and then we all dine together. Students do the cleanup.  United Thank Offering Applications Available
This year the United Thank Offering Applications have a different time schedule and a somewhat different format. The information is on a new website www.utochange.org. You will find the application there along with the criteria and the 2 marks of mission which are being addressed with this year's grants. Much of the information needed is quite straight forward, but if questions arise, please ask. Each diocese is allowed to put in one application for the diocese, a program that has some connection to the diocese or to a particular parish. Each diocese can also put in an application for a companion diocese or project abroad with which they are involved. Two years ago the diocese received a grant for $11,000 plus for materials to reopen a maternity unit and clinic in the Diocese of Newala. This past year the diocese received $4,000 plus for computers for the after school program of Our Next Generation in Milwaukee.
Our time schedule is to have all the applications in hand at the diocesan office by Friday February 15th. They are then reviewed by a diocesan selection committee. Their recommendations are sent on to the Bishop who will act on their recommendations and the application will be sent to the national church no later than Thursday, February 28th.

"Spend a day exploring how to live out our faith in one of the most familiar and most challenging contexts: our family life. During the day, kids, youth, and parents will explore central themes as separate groups; then come together as families to eat, share, play and create.
In the morning session, we'll explore the voices we use in our household: How do we talk to each other? How well are we connected? Who gets a say? How well do we listen?
In the afternoon session, we'll look at the concept of "discipline" and how it relates to "discipleship" - everyone in our family is learning and growing; how can we do it together, in love?
We hope you'll end the day with some new tools and new ideas for daily life!"

Diocese of Newala needs our help

When the tractor is not running, hoes like this one are the only means of cultivating the fields. |
During this season of Advent, please remember the Diocese of Milwaukee's companion diocese, Newala in your prayers. This financial stresses the diocese faces are many. At this time, they are struggling to raise funds to repair their tractor, which (when operational) is an important source of income for the diocese, as it is hired out to plow fields for local farmers. When the tractor is not running, not only must area farmers return to working their fields with hand tools (see photo) but there are also no funds to pay diocesan office workers. The Diocese of Newala is currently trying to raise approximately $4500 to fix the tractor.

 FIT for the Diocese
Does your parish have questions in regards to the operational end of finances? Would it aid you if there was a resource committee at the Diocesan level you could go to with questions on finance? Well we can provide the FIT (Financial Information Team).
This new diocesan committee, which shall be referred to as FIT, has been formed. Committee members are: Diocesan staff members; Diane Blank, Financial Officer, Peggy Bean, Assistant to the Bishop, Clergy; Michael Caldwell, Zion Episcopal Church, Oconomowoc and Parish Treasurers; Jim Knaak, St. James, West Bend and Tammy Wyman, St. Thomas of Canterbury, Greendale.
This committee has just begun to explore what our responsibility will be but can tell you that we are here to help treasurers; vestry and clergy understand the financial piece of congregational life. This not only includes making sure everyone understands how to read financial reports but the technology available to produce those reports. We also want to be a resource you can go to when you need assistance in regards to financial operations (job descriptions, procedures, forms, software, etc). We even see ourselves coming out to your parish to provide whatever kind of assistance you may need.

Community of Hope Training
 Sign up now!
A new session of the Community of Hope training program for lay pastoral caregivers will begin on February 3rd at St. Bartholomew Church in Pewaukee. The 12-week training session includes an annual retreat and continued support for caregivers. Winter/spring classes will be held on Sunday afternoons (1:30 to 3:30).
