School supplies for children of Jeannette, Haiti from Trinity, Baraboo children
Trinity, Baraboo middle-school children raise funds for children in Jeannette, Haiti

The middle school youth group of Trinity Baraboo recently hosted a family movie night to raise funds and school supplies for St. Marc's in Jeanette, Haiti. Five overflowing boxes of supplies were raised - including two Dr. Seuss books - in French! More than $200 was given in concession sales, as well. Our middle schoolers have taken a deep and specific interest in David-Lee, Catherine, and Judeline, the children we sponsor through the project, and they are beginning to dream of traveling to Haiti as high schoolers. Many thanks to the people of Trinity for supporting this project, and special thanks to Sara and Michael Strozinsky, teachers of the middle school class, for spending so much time helping our kids to see beyond themselves. What a great project!

St. Paul's Choir performs the music of Praetorius, Poulenc, Warlock, Strauss, Cornelius, and others accompanied on St. Paul's magnificent new Schantz pipe organ by wonderful guest organist Michael Hey, who will also play selections by Litaize and Messiaen. All are welcome. The Christmas Season has this one last quiet gift to offer. Don't miss it! St. Paul's is located at 914 East Knapp Street, Milwaukee, WI 53202.

St. Francis, Menomonee Falls collecting warm weather clothing

St Francis of Menomonee Falls is conducting a warm clothing drive for the needy in the area.

There is an impossible to miss big yellow box on the corner of Menomonee and Lavergne Aves - our front lawn -  for the purpose.  We are especially hoping for donations of warm coats, but all manner of warm clothing is gratefully accepted.

Last year, our first, we only collected coats, and for a much shorter time period.  Even so, we managed to snag 104 coats.  Better yet, the good people at One Hour Martinizing in Menomonee Falls cleaned all 104 of the coats for no charge whatsoever!  The newly spruced up coats were then given to St James in Milwaukee and other organizations in the Western suburbs for distribution to the needy.  Any and all donations can be dropped off 24/7 in our collection box.

Spend a day exploring how to live out our faith in one of the most familiar and most challenging contexts: our family life. During the day, kids, youth, and parents will explore central themes as separate groups; then come together as families to eat, share, play and create.

In the morning session, we'll explore the voices we use in our household: How do we talk to each other? How well are we connected? Who gets a say? How well do we listen?

In the afternoon session, we'll look at the concept of "discipline" and how it relates to "discipleship" - everyone in our family is learning and growing; how can we do it together, in love?

We hope you'll end the day with some new tools and new ideas for daily life!"

Each day is limited to ten (10) families. Register early! Registration begins November 30, 2012. Registration for January date is due by Jan. 7th. Registration for February date is due by Feb. 4th. Diocese of Newala needs our help
When the tractor is not running, hoes like this one are the only means of cultivating the fields.

During this season of Advent, please remember the Diocese of Milwaukee's companion diocese, Newala in your prayers.  This financial stresses the diocese faces are many.  At this time, they are struggling to raise funds to repair their tractor, which (when operational) is an important source of income for the diocese, as it is hired out to plow fields for local farmers.   When the tractor is not running, not only must area farmers return to working their fields with hand tools (see photo) but there are also no funds to pay diocesan office workers.  The Diocese of Newala is currently trying to raise approximately $4500 to fix the tractor.

If you would like to make a donation, checks may be sent to the Diocese of Milwaukee at 804 East Juneau Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53202.  Please make checks payable to Diocese of Milwaukee and put "Newala Tractor" in the notation line.  Questions?  Contact Neil Radtke of the Companion Diocese Committee at njradtke@wi.rr.com .

THANK YOU!

 The 2013 Haiti Project
Got Art? Calendar

The children of St. Marc's School in Jeannette created the art.  Artists in Wisconsin donated their time and talents to turn this art into a beautiful 2013 calendar.  Help us celebrate and support our partnership with St. Marc's through the purchase of a calendar for yourself or as a gift.  The calendars are $18/each or 3/$45 and can be purchased online at www.haitiproject.org.  The funds raised will help support education and trade school programming in the arts.

FIT for the Diocese

Does your parish have questions in regards to the operational end of finances? Would it aid you if there was a resource committee at the Diocesan level you could go to with questions on finance? Well we can provide the FIT (Financial Information Team).

This new diocesan committee, which shall be referred to as FIT, has been formed. Committee members are: Diocesan staff members; Diane Blank, Financial Officer, Peggy Bean, Assistant to the Bishop, Clergy; Michael Caldwell, Zion Episcopal Church, Oconomowoc and Parish Treasurers; Jim Knaak, St. James, West Bend and Tammy Wyman, St. Thomas of Canterbury, Greendale.

This committee has just begun to explore what our responsibility will be but can tell you that we are here to help treasurers; vestry and clergy understand the financial piece of congregational life. This not only includes making sure everyone understands how to read financial reports but the technology available to produce those reports. We also want to be a resource you can go to when you need assistance in regards to financial operations (job descriptions, procedures, forms, software, etc). We even see ourselves coming out to your parish to provide whatever kind of assistance you may need.

We look forward to being your FIT and will provide more information as it becomes available. Questions can be directed to the convener of the committee, Tammy Wyman. Tammy can be reached at 414-581-2987 or via e-mail at tamwym@aol.com .
