We have been super-busy here at the shop, getting everything lined up for our annual Hoodoo Heritage Festival, preparing to debut new books, and readying a week's worth of training for my Apprentices ... all of which you can read about below. Meanwhile, in other news, we now have five actual waterways on the train layout, the dehydrator is running batches of freshly picked Rose petals and Periwinkle leaves daily, and we will welcome YOU with open arms when you stop by the shop to say hello!
MAY 5th is a RAILROAD WORK DAY at Lucky Mojo. Short notice -- yes! -- but if you are local and want to come out to help plant, clean, repair, add to, or fix up the layout, THIS IS THE DAY! Food and drinks provided.

All About Apprenticeship
|
Hello, everyone. We're just two weeks away from this year's Hoodoo Heritage Festival, sponsored by Ms. Robin Presents and Missionary Independent Spiritual Church. It is a weekend of workshops, panel discussions, and classes sure to be of great value to all who attend. Besides receiving in-person hands-on instruction from some of the most respected root doctors out there, every weekend attendee will also take home a goodie bag containing four new books. If you don't have your tickets already, buy yours today! And make sure to schedule a reading with one of the many talented psychics who will be available. We hope everyone will leave informed, inspired, and with several new tricks up their sleeve.
I also want to talk a bit about this year's Apprenticeship Week, happening May 9th - 13th. Each year, during the week preceding the May Hoodoo Workshops we plan a week of apprenticeship training, and the curriculum of that week rotates throughout a three-week cycle, so that within three years, a graduate can complete the training and earn a certificate. From 2003 through 2016, out of 2050 enrolled in the Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course about 500 have turned in their Homework, graduated, and are eligible for the free Apprenticeship training.
This month the cycle continues with the Week Two segment, and the schedule will be as follows:
Week Two: Oils; Incenses; Mojo Hands
Monday: Oils and Salves Lecture; Making Oils
Tuesday: Making, Labelling, and Praying Over Oils
Wednesday: Incenses Lecture; Making Incenses
Thursday: Making and Praying Over Incenses
Friday: Mojo Hand Lecture; making Mojo Hands

The first non-academic book that taught African American hoodoo folk magic, it was advertised in Black-owned newspapers nationwide and became many a rural rootworker's introduction to the convenience of mail-order spiritual supplies.
