It's currently raining as i write this. The rain is much needed here in California, but the rain stops the work on the East Tennessee & Western Northern California Railroad at Lucky Mojo. So although we are happy that the parched land is getting some moisture, the building of the ET&WNC has been stalled for a few days. However, we got some photos of the layout to share. 
This is our master model railroader Daniel Smith of Daniel Smith Railroads showing where the 13' long custom trestle over the Doe River Gorge will soon be placed. Daniel is building everything from scratch. Behind him are piles of rocks and boulders brought in by our layout designer Nancy Norris.  
Above at left you get your first glimpse of the wooden trestle bridge, scratch-built by Daniel Smith. With him is Lucky Mojo's own Bo Maldonado, holding a scratch-built model of our own Rock City Barn. Daniel Smith built the structure as a scaled-down version of our real, prototypical barn, and Bo, a talented artist, has painted it to match the real barn, closely copying the signage on the front that was painted up there by local sign artist Lenny Weinstein!
Above at right is Daniel Smith at work on the long trestle. He has brought his own redwood lumber, specialized woodworking equipment, and tools to the job. And, finally, here is the long trestle in place, with Daniel Smith happily showing its place in the landscape. Now he is off to work on the model of the Linville depot, the redwood tree trestle, the Linville Gravel Works, and the Cranberry General Store -- plus a water tower. All of these are modelled from the original ET&WNC line (the Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina RR).
Next month we will show you some more of the amazing work going on here by Nancy Norris of Garden Lines (layout designer), Eric Moes of Kalcor (the electrician who will get power to the tracks and the towns), Don Herzog of Miniature Plant Kingdom (supplier of living miniature trees and shrubs), Daniel Smith of Daniel Smith Railroads. and Bo Maldonado (scenic painter).

It has been a while since we've taken a group shot of all the Lucky Mojo employees. Over the last few months there have been some personnel changes and we wanted to introduce the talented employees who are processing your orders, making your products, lighting your candles, and generally helping Lucky Mojo to run smoothly.

After much duress, I (Miss Phoenix) somehow conned almost everyone at the shop into being in this picture. It took some minor begging, but with sixteen employees plus the owners working here, it did take some effort. (There may have been cookies.) Although many of us are cross-trained to help in all the different areas of the shop, we do have specializations. Weighing and Measuring at the 2013 Apprenticeship
The Apprenticeship Program in April and May (see below) is our regular yearly program. If you are a graduate of my Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course and can make it up to Forestville for FIVE DAYS from APRIL 28 - MAY 2, 2014, you can join us and get in on this FREE training program. The same rules apply as for the regular April-May Apprenticeship, but this will be WEEK THREE. Week Three: Baths; Sachets; Jack Balls

7th ANNUAL HOODOO HERITAGE FESTIVAL
For the seventh consecutive year, Missionary Independent Spiritual Church is sponsoring our Hoodoo Heritage Festival in Forestville, California.
This program is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. You do not need to be a student of the Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course or a Graduate Apprentice to come out to the program and learn conjure for two fabulous days in Forestville! However, you do need to register. Everyone is welcome, and every year people come from all across the country and all around the world to take these fun, fast-moving, hands-on workshops.
These classes in African American folk magic, rootwork, and hoodoo will teach you practical tricks and tips to take your conjure work to a new level of confidence and knowledge. In addition to spell casting, we also showcase the mystery and magic of world-wide folk religions. And, above all, the Hoodoo Heritage Festival is a not-for-profit venture -- so, in addition to great teaching, you will receive goodie bags from our sponsors that are filled with freebies galore.
